In paving 45 cents a punild for butter we are reaping the fruits of the fanatical statnd taken by the state and local health boards last summer, which drove manv of the local butter producers out of the market. As long as we hai ve the presenL;t opresiv ye laws and regulations regardirng the titanu facture and sale of dairy products, upon our state hooks, we Inta depend upon Ipaying a higher price for an in ferior article than we would have to do under sane sanitary regulations. Miss Nelliie Stawart Entertains at Progressive Forty-two. Mliss Nellie Stewart entertained about tweuty-live of tile younger set at pIrogressive forty-two at her home on South Adams Street, Friday even. ing. Miss Irma Robinson was awarded a handsome prize as the winner of the most points among the ladies, while Mr. Rene RIomero was the winner of ialmilar honors among the gentlemen, and received a handsome prize. At the proper timne a two course luncheon was served. All present had a delicbtful time, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening, BLAMED A GOOD WORKER "I blamed my heart for severe dis tress in my left side for two years," writes W. Evans, Danville, Va., "but I know now it was indigestion; as Dr. King's Sew hLife Pills completely cured nme." Best for: stomach, liver and kidney trouble, constipation, headache or debility. 23e at All Drug. aist. Miss Culver Entertains With a Five Course Luncheon Last Friday. Miss Emma Culver most delightfully entertained twelve of her lady friends at a five course luncheon, last Fridavy. The different rooms in the Culver home were decorated in amost tasteful manner. The c(ol,,r scheme in the dining room was pink and white, these colors appearing in some dainty form in each of the live courses served. The table was artistically arranged with a lar.,e center piece of pink Chrysanthumums, above which glowed svft artiflicial light under pink shades. Hand(siome haid painted place cards ma:rked each guest's place at the t hle anrl tere retained as attractive sonvyeniiis f a rmost delightful ocea sion. Following the luncheon which was thorugihly enjoyed by all present the guests were each n.eesed witth a quilt block of iunique design and asked to make one in the same lpattern. This foature was thin source of a goodi deal of plleasant rivalry on the part ,of thonse present. The guests were Mesdames ('C. i. Moore, L.E. Robin.son, I).1;. Head, A. T'. ,lones, W . I:. Fauglht, J. S. (;ersin, W . HF. nneidv, ('. E. ('arr, W. I. CIhapmran, and ,Misses Ollie lDolton and IEldia Goodreau. Former Welsh Boy Making Good In The North. The above partial clilpping from a Michigan paper indicates that Abel Todld one of our well known Welsh )o\s is "ma'nkin ,r o)od" in his chosen profession in the north. We under stand from Abel's father, Mr. 'ohbert Todd of this locality. that Abel is holing a responsible position as bacteriologist in the emiplor of the state of Michigan. Abel is well known to everybody in this locality among whom he numbers hundreds of friends who will feel a pardonable pride in his progress, Basket Ball! Basket Ball If the weather man will permit there will be two games of basket bail on the Welsh campus Saturday Feb. 10th one at 10 a, m. the other at 2 p. m. be tween the Welsh Hligh School and Lafayette Industrial Institute. As thre Welsh team has not been de feated for two years their glory has spread abroad over the land, and the State Industrial Institute desires to make us lower our colors if they can. There shloult be a large crowd out Saturday as Lafavette nJudastrial In stltute is a state school and no dbubt has a very line timre. Mr. Arurette wishes to extend hiis hrearty thanks to the public for tiheir generous suppour't of the basket ball team in thIe past and piromrnises them a clean interesting ,ame so long as he is connected with tihe school. Press. Commrnnittee. Welsh Citizen Uses Dynamite in Ex cavating Holes for Planting Trees. W'hie tlhe utilitatrian uses of dyina mite are many, and its use in digging hmles ad in liiisening up soil has been succt ssfuliv emplonvedl in rInrrny I sectinis of the coulltr'y, it remained so far' as we know for IMr. S. O. Scogins to nmake thie first uise of it in this way in this irimmeiiate locality. The latter part of last week MIr. Scoggirsdecided to put out a numtilber of oriange trees on his farm in thie northeast par't of town, arnd instead of spending mrr'ny hours digziring holes with a shovel, ie just sunI a hole tabout two feet deep with a bar and put in a stick of dvna mite with sutlicient fuse to reach tihe surface, set a match to it and the deed was done. A stick of dvnamite used in this manner will blow out a hole practicallv as ]arge as a barrel, aind in addition to being a great labor saver, thie work is done much better than it could be done in any other war, as the rzound is thoroughly loosened up for several feet around the hole, and to a depth of several feet as well, thus pel'mnitting better draina&re, and also giving the rooits a chance to penetrate the soil, much better thlan they could otherwise do. We believe it will pay any one who has even a small number of holes to dig, to let dynamite do the work. HE WON'T LIMP NOW. No more limping for Tom Moore of Cochran, Ga. "I had a bad sore ,on my instep that nolthing seemed to help till I used Bucklen's Arnica Salve:"' he writes, "but this wonderful healer soon cured me." City Officials Try Out New Road Drag A new steel road drag that is beingt sold by Mr. Sain Turner, of Beau mnont. Texas, received a try-out on the streets of Welsh, Wednesday rnorn ing. The drag Is built in a measure on the plan of the old split log drag, which in itself is one of the best iiiplements for working the roads under certain conditions, yet invented. The new dragt works on the same principle, but instead of being solid it is dividedi into three sectionus, and is intended to graide a road and also to smooth it dowVn after it has become cut uap into ruts. lThe drag was triedi (n the streets XVedl(nesday and did most excellent wotrk, leavingr them leveled in a iani ner tthat ciuld l iot have been done itr any other way at auythiug like the same cost. This drag costs ti,..00 and woauld he a very good iiivestmeniit foir the city to riiake as by mealns of it the streets can be kept iu far' teiter' clnditioli in the future than they have beeni in the past, unli at at very small eml)eise for teanms aind labor. Try it the next time you run short of bread. Save this recipe. 20 I C Baking Powder Blacults Three cups flour; 3 to y4 cup short ening; 3 klevel teasoonfuls K C Raking Powc'er; about 1 cup milk or water; I teaspoonful salt. Sift three times, the flour, salt and baking powder. Work into the flour the shortening, using lard or butter for shortening. Then mix to a very soft, dough with the milk. The softer the biscuit enters the oven, the lighter it comes out. Never knead baking powder biscuits; press the dough into shape and roll lightly. Cut in small shapes and bake on a sheet or very shallow pan in a hot oven. In placing biscuits in the pans place well apart, not allowing edges to touch. Small biscuits are better than large ones. Large biscuits do not have the proper amount of time to raise and bake. Save you seen the new K C Cook's Book?
