News From Rice Mr. and Mrs. Julian Verret of Rice were the proud parents of a new girl which made its arrival Tuesday morn ing at 7 o'clock. Supt. W. P. Arnette, Parish Superin. tendent held a meeting at the Verret School house Tuesday and it was de cided that the Verret School will stand as it is another year and that the Lan dry School house will be moved to Rice and one room will be added to the build ing and a graded school established. All the farmers of this neighborhood are very busy planting rice just now. The season has been so wet that the planting is late this year. Chaimberlain's Liniment. Visitors Honored The suburban home of Miss Frances 1 Carr was the scene of a pretty party given in honor of Miss Carr's week end visitors Missses Mayme Bernstien and Elizabeth Minor of Oakdale, La. Sand also Miss Maoel Coombs of Deputy 1 Ind., who is the guest of Mrs. Will Carr. The house was prettily decorated in ferns and roses. Progressive rook was the diversion of the evening, the prize being won by Miss Bernstien. Delicious refreshments were served en buffet. The guest list included fourteen of Miss Carr's friends. V Ordinance No. 171 WHEREAS, the growth of the 1 Electric Business, and the occupancy of oftr streets by persons engagaged in Telephone, Telegraph and Electric Light and Power Service renders it necessary that the erection of poles and wires be done in such a manner as to insure the public interest and at the same time properly protect life and r property, and wherefore this protec tion cannot be properly afforded unless the operation of various companies, individuals and corporatians are sub. ject to proper control. THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Welsh, La., Section 1. That the wires for Elec. trical purposes shall be divided into two classes es follows: FIRST CLASS: Those for Electric Light and Power. SECOND CLASS: Those for Tele phone, Telegraph and Signal. Section 2. Poles carrying wires of first class and poles carrying wires of second class shall be erected on op. posite sides of the street, in all cases except where permission to vary from this rule is obtained from the Mayor and Beard of Trustees. Section 3. Poles shall be of suf ficient height that the lowest wires shall not be nearer the ground than 20 feet and the wires paralelling those of any company, individuals or corpor ations, shall not come nearer the wires of any other company, individuals or corporation than 24 inches where any wire or fleet of wires of any company, individuals or corporations cross those of any other company, individuals or corporations, those of the second class shall pass above those of the first class, making a clearance of not less than four feet. At all such places a set of safety- or guard wires must be constructed beneath any fleet of wires of the second class so as to make im pos: ible a wire of the second class falling or coming in contact with a wire of the first class. Permission to vary from this section must be obtained from the Mayor and Board of Trustees. Section 4. Wires of the first class and wires of the second class must not occupy the same pole except upon con. sent of the Mayor and Board of Trustees. Section 5. Be it further ordained, etc., that this ordinance shall go into effect immediately after publication. Section 6. Any person, firm or cor poration erecting poles or wires not conforming to the rules herein laid down shall be required to remove same promptly upon 24 hours notice in writ. Ing being given by the proper au. thorities to remove same, and unless so removed the work of removing may be done by the City at the expense of owner. Section 7. Any companies, firms or persons and any employe of any firm, person or corporation violating the term of this ordinance shall be pun. ished by a fine of not less than Five Dollars or not more than Thirty Dol lars, at the discretion of the Mayor.
