Cutting and threshing of rice will be delayed for several days on account of the heavy rain which fell Monday and Monday night. Cutting will be resum. ed the latter part of the week if we get no more rain. So far no damage to the shocked rice is looked for and standing rice is all in good shape. Yv4 Pitre returned from Lake Charles this morning and reports that his son, Edmond who was operated up on a new days ago for appendicitis is not doing as well as usual, but we hope to bear soon that Edmond is better. Parties who hLvye phil;edl and wired over the coun try for sacks ha te been unable to linol them, but it seems that several towns are daily expecting them. Deputy ike Fonterot attended a dance at Mr. E;i Hebert's Saturday night and put in a fIcW CrlpaigI words waiile there. Harold Miller lost a good mule Satur day ifrni overheat. Winm. The Local Rice Market is active with about six buyers in the market and about ten thousand - bags of Blue Rose and Japan Rice sold this week at $3.50 for No. 1 each variety, with the exception of one lot of Japan which brought $3.75. This lot of rice was raised on a piece of ground which has been in cultivation for ) the past 15 years and brought the Shighest price of any lot sold this week. The farmers are well Ssatisfied with this week's prices s and the association is in very 1 good shape The 3.75 lot of Ja - pan rice was raised by Jesse New s comer of Woodlawn. (From the Elton Courier) o The rice market has been very 4 active during the past week. g About 1500 bags of Honduras -moved at $3.00; about 3000bags 4 4 of Japan from No. 5 to No. 1 sold 4 for from $2.82 to $3.52 1-2per bbl; 5000 sacks of Blue Rose sold from SNo. 4. to No 1, prices received from 2.90 to 3.40 per bbl. Com 0paring sales from all over the - rice belt, Elton has more than Sheld her share in sacks sold and prices received.
