Last year the pre Iiction in Texas was 2,696,561 bales, two years ago 3,125,379 halcs, three years ago 3,725,7100 bales, and four years ago 3,227,448 bales. According to. In Harris County the crop is 17 per e cent normal, while in Liberty it is 15 per cent. In Refugio County it is but by 7 per cent normal and in Nueces Coun ty but 10 per cent normal, the low ra e tios in the latter counties being due d to storm damage. Nearly all the ills possible have be - fallen the farmers in those sections where the crop is reported bad. Con tinuous and excessive rains delayed " the plantings and caused frequent re planting. Under the superabundance of moisture cultivation was delayed, is resulting in grassy fields and leaving the plant rank in growth, with heavy p foliage excluding the sunshine and air. In the last place all known insect enemies of cotton have constantly in d creased in numbers and destructive ss ness. Even in the northern counties the crop has suffered severely from in the second attack of the worms and - weevils.
