A surprise party was most suc cessfully carried out by Mrs. C E. Meyer for heer daughter, Hel en, on the latter's birthday, Dec. 24th. Louisiana, December 1, 1921. 11 The Police Jury of the Parish of Jefferson Davis met in regular o session at the Court House in Jennings, Louisiana, this day at nine o'clock a. ni. The,meeting was called to order by Honorable C. E. Carr, and upon roll call the following memebers were pesent: W. S. Streater, Ward 1. D. E. Cole, Ward 5. W. Krielow, Ward 2. C .E. Carr, Ward 6. E. J.. M. Davis, Ward 3. A. E. Bourgeois, Ward 7. J. S. Treme, Ward 4. Dolze Bourgeois, Ward 8. c- lHon David Marcantel, Ward 9, being absent. r- The minutes of the regular sesison held on November 3rd; 1921. at were read and approved in open session. 1ý RESOLUTION. ly Whereas, the Police Jury of the Parish of ,ell'ersol Dl)a'is,. has heretofore con'vened in special session for the purpose of, sitting as a Board of Review, to pass upon chani;gs in the assessment[ after. Ihi ~nii dnsssessment had been made by the Louisiana Tax Commis sion an dafter the said assessment had been made by the Parish Assessor and accepted and approved by the Parish Board of Equal ization; and Whereas, this Police Jury has seen fit in its judgment and be* cause of its knowledge of local conditions and values to refuse to approve certain increases in divers assessments as ordered by the Louisiana Tax Commission; and Whereas, believing in local government and having confidence in the ability, experience and inetgrity of our Parish Assessor, and knowing the capability and high standing of the members of the members of the Jefferson Davis Parish Board of Equalization, and the fact that the said board earnestly and impartially discharged the duties incumbent upon it; We respectfully submit that the combined knowledge ,experi ence, judgment and acquaintance with local conditions and values of the Assessor, Equalization Board :~.! :: :!ers of this Police Jury should be given the consideratiin : v. ilic hit .!erits .and for this reason our recommendations shou:!d be ctu imestly and Q:.:2efully con L sidered by the said Louisiana ''Ta Commission and thli.t our acts should be accepted and assemstn s ±' s made accordingiy. Therefore, be it resolved, That a cop yof these resolutions be sent to thesaid Louisiana Tax Commission ,an dto the press, an, that said Louisiana Tax Commission be respectfully requested tc - accept and adopt all recomlnendations made by this Police Jury. The above resolution was introduced by Mr. ;Krielk, ~lwho mov ed that the satmie tbc auopteu. i nae iu uLIuivi:&, % " Bourgeois, and upon being put was carried RESOLUTION. ,, Whereas, by a system of flawvs the authority to assess property in the State of Louisiana for both local and State purposes has been gradually vested in the Louisiana Tax Commission at Baton Rouge, and, .Whereas, the requirements of this system an dof the Louisiana I'ax Commission are so complex as to deprive most Tax payers o f the constitutional right to test the accuracy of such assessments in the Courts of Louisiana ,and, Whereas ,it has become imperative that some relief be furnish ed the tax payers against unjust, arbitrary and illegal assessments, and md hereas, the recommendations of the Police Juries relative to the valuations of properties assessed are often ignored by the Loui siana Tax Commission, Therefore, be it resolved by the Police Jury of Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana, That we earnestly request the Legislature of Lo isiana to repeal the burdensome ,expnsive and useless reequirements imposed on the tax payers as conditions precedent to the right to lest the accurfcty of their assessments in the courts of Louisiana an din lieu thereof ,to ebact a law guaranteeing to every tax payer a summary action in Court to fix the amount of his assessment wher he and the assessing authorities disagree. The motion was seconded by Mr. Dolze 2 Bourgeois and upon being put was carrieed,. Mr., Treme ioved that the President of the Police Jury be auth orized to employ an, auditor.,for the purpose of auditing the books = of the Parish Treasurer, for the period ending December 31, 1221. 1 The motion was seconded by Mr. Dolze Bourgeois and upon bing put was carried. Midkiff, federal inspector in charge of Tick Eradica tion work, appeared before the Police Jury and recommended .that the Police Jury approve the appointment of Nicholas .Grbarino as iinsepctor to succeed 0. N, Richard. He further recommended that Messrs. S. E. E.arroll and Lucius Corbello, local inspectors, be re leased, end that A. C. Hatfleld be retained. Mr. Krielow t moved that the `said recommendations be :,pproved by ihis Police Jury.
