Spangler, who com pleted his long cycle ride from Johannesburg to Cape Town at 7:30 last evening, has, in ad dition to advertising the virtues of Flag and Three Castles cigarettes, accomplished a capital performance. Spangler, who rode a chainoles Columbia cycle, left, Johannesburg on blonday, No vember 14, and traveled via Klerksdorp. Fourteen Streams and Kimberley. Iie found the roads in very fair condition, but does not speak well of the Karoo, where water is very scarce and dust more than plentiful. Two days' rain churned the roads between Wolmaranstad and Bloembof into liquid mud, but beyond this the weather was ex Scellent. He only travelled one night, after having laid up a day at Prince Albert Road, and was attacked by a festive tramp mear Matjestontein, who put a stone through his front wheel, but decamped rapidly when a revolver shot showed that Spangler was able to look after himself. Spangler claims the record, and has all his papers signed, but we remember both Jooste and De Wet, just prior to the war, came through in very quick time. The performance, however, is an ex cellent one, more especially when one considers that he combined business with pleasure.--Cape Town Argus.
