Having completed its labors, Your k. Grand Jury respectfully submits this its report. Only one case was presented to us ' for examination, and this proved to be one, of aecidental killing; all of which ii should serve to commend the law abid e ing people and the officers of this par ish in a high degree. Owing to the peculiar geographical formation of this parish, jurors attend ing the sessions of this Court find it c more expensive than the pay received d in performing their duties. We under stand that this question is provided for n by State law and we respectfully urge upon our Representative to take some steps towards securing legislation which will afford more respectable pay. for jurors. e Complaint has been made to us that some six or seven acres of natural oyster reef have been leased by the Conservation Commission to private in dividuals. These reefs are located in r Quarantine Bay, this Parish, and, we are informed, have been part of 'the right of common fishery for time "im memorial. A continuance of this policy on the part of the Commission will re sult in untold injury to a large number r of oystermen dependent upon these reefs for a livlihood, We respectfully urge:upon the proper authorities to investigation of this matter, and if found .unlawful, that this grand jury be called together in special session to consider the matter further. We have examined the jail and found same in good condition and prisoners w.6ll ~: hid- fbr:: ~' " , The Court House is still in poor con dition but.it.is of no use to. report thereon as no report seems to do any good in this matter. The toilet at the Court House is a crime and since the Police Jury will pay no attention to our reports we recpmmend that this matter be called .otAib atteitidon of the Parish Board of Health.
