This is also the 'co~rono all, experience all over Louisiana and it reaches that clear though to the Atlantic coast, the whole duct souern .t the. The revolt against this combination led to the building of veta 2500 farmer's elevators and in this way there out su was brought about better conditions for all con- schedu cerned. We a Another suggestion of his is that farmers gis, su without incorporating might come together and Southe appoint a committee to look after the different that a interests in the community. These committees special could get catalogues from mail order houses, Canal returf learn the prices of all commodities, including mit of fertilizers and farm machinery, as well as the excur! requirements of domestic life and orders could We be made up for these joint purchases if it was iana N the concensus of opinion, or could be made up owner anyway by those who felt like making the ven- to the ture. He incidentally refers to the fact and in- free dicates its truth that the credit system .is the Canal great curse of the South and leads the farmer any r into larger .ventures than he can successfully the lo cope with, with the final result that all the dis asters fall upon the farmer and if anything is left the middlemen get it. He believes that the farmers should combine and with competent I he committees negotiate for supplies or for money plying where it is needed with the local banks, instead for a of paying one, two or three profits for interven- La. ing transactions. Another point is that of the grade of pro duce. It has become a well recognized fact that ordinary produce, if it can be inspected at I h all, is- generally valued on the worst sample ing t that can be taken from it. Therefore all pro- for a duce should be evenly packed as to quality, so room that any sample taken from anywhere in a lot ville, Sof produce would be representative in its char acter and not disputive. Proceeding further as to the matter of an incorporation, it is so easily done and can or- I dinarily be done by a lot of farmers under the plyir e guide of some legal friend at a comparatively for small cost,-that it should be done as the best isle way to perform some if not many of these e functions for combined operation in modern marketing. In such organizations. if they are of a scien- WO g tific or beneficial character, intended for the d Jisseminition of information and for the sug gestion of ways and means to accomplish cer tain t .eds, then in Louisiana such associations k do not-require any subscribed stock capital. Or ganizations that do require capital would neces sarily have to secure subscriptions of stock and c S.under the prisert law no corporation can go in Sitb operation until 8000 shall have been paid up arind.° en.then,, if $10,000 should have been paid Ig up, the unpaid subscription, becomes a liability re against stoe stockholder should' disaster come b- in ai y way to the to o). , N 'T e Assumption eer recently had a lot Sexcellent auggestfds alongthis, line.
