'We are requested to inform the Cat holics that a meeting is called to meet at the preshbytery after high mass tomorrow. for the purpose of organizing in this town a lodge of the Catholic Knights I of America. We believe it wonuld be advisable to call a meeting of the committee in charge of the erection of Father Jan's monumlent, to take means to raise the small amount of money which is needed to complete the monuient. The ground has been raised at the foot of Father .lan'i monument, inside of the railing, and the statue now presents a better apIpe:arance. and when the grKundl u ill be covered by evergreens it will be a little beauty. .Sheriff Gardetal left with a prisoner for Batonl Itialge Monday. and J. Judge hicks, of Shreveport, has been fortunate in s.curing jury panels which rendered just and true venlicts, thus creating quite a panic among the rogaes in Caddo parish. How infinitely better is this than the "regulator" method of correcting evils and punishing wrong doers. The Shreveport method brings to a community confidence, respect and capital. The Judge Lynch plan makes the law a scoff and scorn, and the locali ty where it rules one to be seduously a voidled by prudent investors. Lxt New Iberia and St. Martinsville look to the character of their jrlies.--City Item. Monday the 4th. in-t. president Cleve land retired from his high official posi tiop to private life, after four years of a successful administration, to make place for Mr. larrison the new president of this great nation. Mr. lI:arrison was inaugurated with great splendor Monday and Tuesday sent to the Sen.ite for con tirmation the name of his councillors who are: James Gillespie Blaine, of Maine, Secretary of State; William Win deon, of Minnesota, Secretary of the Treasury; Redtield Proctor, of Vermont Secretary of War; Benjamin Tracy, of New York. Secretary of the Navy; John Willock Noble of Missouri, Secretary of the Interior; John Wannamaker, of lnunsylv:nia, Postmaster General; Wil liaml henry llarrionu Miller, of Indiana Attorney General; Jeremiah Mason Rusk, of Wisconsin, Secretary of Agri culture. Now, what will be the attitudle atnd policy of the new admistration, no one knows; but it is generally believed that it will be friendly to the south, and will maintain the civil service rule. I"B. A Terrible Misfortune. t It is a calamity of the direct kind to feel that one's physical en ergies are fail ing in the prime of life--to feel more nerveless, more dispirit, d, weaker every day. A source of re newed strenzgth which science aproves. in behalf of which multitudes of the Ie bilitated Ilave and are e cry day testify inug, and which, in countless instances, t has built up constitutions sapped by weakness and infirmity and long un benetitted by other means, surely conll mends itself to all who ieedtl a tonic. The Itiem has received a letter from St. 1 Martins' ille .omplanining sorely of the i prevalence of lawlessness and regulator rule in that neighllorhedl. This I-lsked to us as a personal affair. Information in such matters cannot be had very easily 1 as the wronged parties do not even call upon the legal authorities to be protee f ted and to suppress the evil. We claim that the authorities are fully able to maintain peace and order if they were put on the trace of the disturbers of the peace, and protection claimed from them. I We always make it a duty to publish everything that happen in our communl e ty, when we can ge't reliable information, t and in such cases the best information I would be the deposition under oath of I the outraged parties to the authorities f who would investigate matters to the 'f satisfaction of the people. a I-larris' Nickel Plate Show.
