Two of the accllsed, Fer nand Brlussard and .Anatole Brealux, were tischargedl by the court on lmotion of the Attorney Genleral, as there was no evi deuce against thenm on either charge. Alci.le Broussard. Silmonet Breaux and Ernest ('ro;:chet were admitted to bail in the suem of #$.-A intch which they fur ilishdl, to appewar before the grand jury in October inext. C. mnmillwau, Jos. I'othier, rsinl l'rejean in the sum of $Filll each; Alcide Bernard, Siomonet Breaux, Ernest ('rouchet, Gaston Blot, llYlydite Itelmrt, Joe. Stayman, Saul ('as tille in the sumi of $#2~l each. On the charge murder tihe following prisoners were rlmmaulded to jail without benefit of hail: Ernest Bernard, tGab. Du beau, Duplex Breaux, A. C. Guilbeau, Adolphe Guil beau, Jos. Pothier, Ilypolite Ilebert, Adolphe Prejean, Rosemond Broussard, Octave ('astille, Gaston Blot, Dr. rsiun I'rejean, Saul Broussard and Joseph Stayrnan. Regulators Arrested. During the night of Thursday the 15th. Inst., an armed mnlo appeared at the door of Mr. imuplechein, in the parish of St. Landry and demanded to see a colored woman named Sylvanie LeBlane; on being called she appeared in the room. When she saw the regulators she begged Mr. )uplecheln to protect her, and at the same time catching hold of him. At this point.says a special to the Pic ayune, the regulators rushed in the room and grabbed the woman. who was still holding on to Mr. Duplechein when a struggle followed. The struggle conti nued until the regulators dragged tlhe wonman on the gallery. In scuffling to ward the front door, the regulators hav ing draggedl both out, Duplechein grab bed his shot gun, and when the regula tors reached the ground, dragging the woman, Duplechein's gun snapped the first time, but his gun fired the second barrel and one of the regulators fell. This was the shot that broke regu lator Gerasin Meche's leg. The regulators then opened fire on Du plechein with shotguns riddling him from his waist up. About this time the regulators fired sl:ots from either a rifle or large revolver, as the balls that pier ced tile walls and were found in the bllse were 44 calibre. Mr. IDuplechein's wounds, though se rious will not prove fatal. This occurrence is denouncedt by all our people. IDupllechein is one of the best citizens of that neighborhood and a man of means. It is fortunate that the rifle balls which pierced the walls did not strike the child in the lasn. Too nmuch credit cannot he accorded to our effieient Sheriff Fontenot for the in telligent and effective nmanner in which he worked out this dastardly act and for bringing the would be assasins to jus tire. It is by such diligence as exhibi ted by our worthy Sheriff that these acts of lawlessness will ibe stopped. Our peo- t pie feel that the sheriff has done his whole duty. Mr. Fontenot was acconm panied by Messrs. C. '. . Garland, John Monehinveg and Lee Stagg, his efficient a deputies, It is undertoodl that the She rift has sufficient evidenee to warrant t more arrests, which will shortly follow.
