FOR CONGRESSMAN, We ate requested to announce the candidacy of Judge Edward 1iimon, for Congressman of the 'Third Congressional District. The Protectionists. 'Captain John F. White, 'of IThe 'ia parish, is the candidate selet ed at Franklin last week, by the Proteti onists. The following resolutions wefe adopted uuaniimoslty by the col vention: "Whereas, the demands of legis lature opponents to th, protective policy are a ':onstant menace to the sugar, rice and lumber inter ests of the Third Congreseional District; and Whereas, it is an indisputable end self-evident fact that these initerests need the fostering care of an avowed protectionist; and Whereas, admittance to and counselling with congressional protective committees is an indis pensible necessity to successful efforts in behalf of these interests; and Whereas, Democratic represen tatives, although believing in pro tective policies, are at a serious disadvantage in being debarred entrance to and caucus action with Republican protection committees; therefore. Be it Resolved, That we, sugar, rice and lumber representatives antd other business delegates, in conference this day here assem bldh', join in an earnest appeal to the voters of the Third Congres sional District, irrespective of party, to vote for and support in their full power the candidate here to-day by us selected. The minutes of last meetieg (July 19, 1892) were read and approved. On motion of Mr. Labbe seconded by Mr. Martin, voted and unanimously car ried. Mr. dales Rousseau was appointed Parish Treasurer. Mr. Pierre Amand informs the Police Jury that Pauper Mrs. Julien Badeau died lately. lie calls on this Body for assistance to defray expenses incurred. The Clerk was authorized to deue in fa vor of Mr, Amand. a check Hof $6,25 for I this object: Mr. David was relieved Vroli paying fine imposed by law fot having left Meeting of August let without permis sion. On motion of Mr. Labbe, seconded by Mr. Martle, voted and carr{wis Frank Jacob was retained as Porter. The President informs the PMice Jury that the Bond of Mr. Rousseau, as Parish Treasurer $3001\ ha been acereted by him. On motion of Mr. Gailbeau, seconded by Mr. Martin, voted and carriest. Be it resolved, That, whereas on the 2Pth day of July, without notice to all the newly appointed Police Jurors and or. a day otier ti, :. reizlar day fixed by law for t! -. i:. Be it re solved, That the proceedings had at said Meeting, the appointment of a Pre sident, Secretary and Treasurer be and they are hereby repea'.d. On the foregoing Resolution, Mr. Gutekunst did not vote Mr. David voted in favor of the Resolution after having 1 satisfactorily explained his action at Meeting of July 20th 1892 refered to in above resolution. Mr. Labbe, for valid reason was ex cused from further attenting this Meet ing. At 1 o'clock p. m., a recess was taken until 2,. o'clock p. m. Evening Session. At 2' o'clock p. m., the Meeting was again called to order. Absent Mr. A. Labbe. Be it furtherr esolved that said Commntusioners be find are herety authorized and requested to isnte certi f licates of election to the candidates re ceiving the highest unniber of votes as delegates to said congressional conven tion. Be it further resolved that three dele gates from each ward except the second ward and one from said Wtdhl shall be elected at said election for the purposes of aforesaid anl by a majority vote the electetd d legatos shall cast the vote of the parish as a unit; A committee from the MlcEnery fac tion having called upon this committee for the purpose of settling supposed dif ferences in the Democratic party in this parish, the following resolution was adopted. That whereas we recognize no such differences in our party and whereas our committee recognizes no other democra tic executive committee in this parishI we do not deem it policy nor wisdom to take any action on tile request of said cammittee. Whereupon a committee was appoint ed to so notify the committee of gentle men appearing before our committee. On motion the president was reqnest ed to write to the lion. It. N.
