The barn burned to the ground., but with the help of buckets and engine No 2 in chartge of our co, lored people, the spreading of 'I flames to the adjoining buildings was averted and a conflagration avoidtal. -Mr. Robert Martin bought the old wire fence that enclosed the court house lot solely because it was an eye sore to the public. We are glad to note that it was removed the very day acquired it. The police jury will replace it with a substantial iron railing, which will be a needed improve ment. Perhaps Mr. Martin would be willing to have the fence erect ed for the police jtry? -Mr. Leopold Simon arrived1 here just a few hours before the death of his mother, Friday morn ing. -The MESSENGER is under deep obligation to its contemporary, The Times-Democrat, for the pic tures of the King and Queen of the first carnival of St. Martinville. -Messrs.
