There are several other lamps which are in the same oon ditions. If the town authorities would make a tour of inspection they would see in what bad condi tions the lamps are, and the num. ber that are broken and not lit at all. There is no reason fo this. The lamp lighter should be eom pelled to do his work right, and all broken lamps should be ~,pilr. ad immediately. Although there has been some cold weather, the meteorologieal conditions this winter have so fa been very favorable to sugar-plan tiog operations, and, as a result, Rood progress has been made in preparing for the crop of 1900. The seed is in excellent condition and planting is progressing at a rapid rate. An unusually large quantity of seed cane has been preserved from the last crop with a view to shak ing the acreage in 1900 the larg let on record. There is a general lesire to make good the losses of 1899, and, consequently, a much arger aresfthan usual will be de roted to cane. Itf a severe freeze, sueb as was experienced a year ago, Jiescaped luring the current mouth, the out ook will be favorablbr a large sane crop this year. Of course, he danger of overflow early in he spring and of drought later on till have to be encountwere; but he present is sufficient to spe slate on a good beginning and he saving of the seed cane from he risk of freezing weather. d There le so better medlicaine for the . mee than Chamberlalna's Cough Remedy. ta pleasat aste and prompt sad ele sal urse makq it a favorite with me bers and small chldreas.
