Oicial Journal of the Town of St. Martinville. 'abseription $i,00 a year invariably in advance,. SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 1904. THE HIGH SCHOOL. Monday, Tuesday and Wednes lday of this week our people atten 'ded in very large numbers the 'commencement exercises of the 'Lt. Marttnvitle High School. During the session just comple 'ted many changes had been made 'in that school, under the trained :supervision of Prof. James Irous ,sard, principal of this excellent school, who was assisted by a 'corps of teachers as able and com petent as it is possible to find in Sany school of this or any other state. Every one of the teachers -of the St. Martin High School is 'a graduate of colleges of the high -eat standing in this country, and every one of the teachers has made . special study of the methods of tesohing that are most approved by the best institutions of learning. The review of the work of the ,ear just completed, shows that the students of this school have %nsde wonderful progress and their veamination, as expressed by Prof. Broussard, is far beyond their ex pectations. The children who took part in the exercises did so well that we feel we cannot go into the details of the diffetent plays, songs, drills, tableaux and recitations; every thing that was presented to the vast audience was as good as could be expected, and was highly ap preciated by tho parents of the children and the public. President Labbe of the school board made an address on the clo sing night, reviewing the work that was done during the past four years, by the school authorities, and it was gratifying to our people to know that today the schools of 3t. Martin parish, without excep tion, will compare favorably with the schools of any parish of this or any other state of the union. (ood substantial buildings have been buit in every school district .et the parish, nearly all of them by special taxation, and these buil dings are equipped and furnished t first class school houses should be, and all are in charge of comrpe %tt teachers. Mr. J. C. Daspif of Breaux drIdae, the orator of the occasion, .ade a most brilliant address; he b;Y made a review of the history of the great men of the world, and impres.-e up<,u the minds of hii~ audience and particularlar the stu dents of the school, to take the lives, the characters of these great statesmen, who have done so much for civilization, and stand as an example to be studid by futura generations. Superintendent Olivier made a short address, reviewing the work of the pupils of the school and complimenting them for their good work in their studies, and awarding the niedals to those who had won them by having attained the highest degree of proficiency in their different classes. Worst of All Experiences. Can anything be worse than to feel that every minute will be your last? Such was the experience of Mrs. S. H. Newson, Decatur, Ala. "For three years" she writes, "I endured insufferable pain from in digestion, stomach and bowel trou ble. Death seemed inevitable when doctors and all remedies failed. At length I was induced to try Electric Bitters anj the result was miraculous. I improved at once and now I'm completely recover ed." For Liver, Kidney, Stomach and Bowel troubles Electric Bit ters is the only medicine. Only 50c. It's guaranteed by T. J. Labbe druggist. The judiciary committee for the Nineteenth Judicial District, com posed of the Parishes of Iberia and St. Martin, met in the office of Messrs. Martin, Voorhies and Martin Monday evening to discuss the political affairs of the district, the three candidates for Judge, were present, also District Attor ney Broussard, one of the candi dates for District Attorney. The committee decided to hold a pri mary election, aud that a majority of votes be necessary to elect a candidate. If ucue of the three candiddates for Judge get a ma jority of the votes cast, the candi date receiving the least number of votes will have to withdraw and a second primary will be held for the people to select by a majority vote, one of the two candidates re seiving the highest number of votes at the first primary. Up to this time we have heard Af but two candidates for the of ice of District Attorney, Messrs. Muller and Broussard, but accord ng to rumors it Is possible that mother candidate will be announ wed. The date for the primary 'fixed a July 26tth. -Big Bargains in Mattings this i reek at L. C. Duchamp. Dr. F. E. Our people will be glad to wel come Dr. Guilbeau and recognize him as one of on rs, and we hope that hle will build a successful practice, And that lie will never have cause to regret his coming to St. Martinville. No Competition. The uniform success of Chamberlaln's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy in the relief and cure of bowel complaints both in. children ant adults has brought it into almost universal use. so that it is practically without a rival, and as everyonte who has used it knows, is with out an equal. For sa!e by T. J. Labbe. -The discussion of the appoint ment of the Assessor for St. Mar tin parish has taken a turn that is quite peculiar, and the supporters of Mr. Victor Maraist, who recei ved the endorsement of the Parish Executive Committee, by a laige majority, say if the supporters of Mr. L. C. Guidry continue their fight to secure his appointment, it will place them in the position of having bolted, and to refuse to submit to the rule of the majority. iolters! can they bolt? Some of the leaders of that faction were pretty sovere on the bolters four years ago, can they now play the role they so roundly denounced when performed by othere? Does it not look strange and funny? Sued by His Doctor. "A do, tor hlere has sued me for $12,50. which I claimed was excessive for a case of cholera morbus," says R. White, of Coachella, Cal. "At the trial he praised his medical skill and medicine. I asked him if it was not Chamberlain's Colie, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy lie used I had good reason to believe it was, and he woult not say ulnder oath that it was nut." No doctor could use a better re medy than this ln a ease of cholera mor bus, it neier falls. Sold by T. J. Labibe.
