The Lafayette Refinery was re ceiving cane at their derrick here this week. Several of our farmers were in town this week trying to get la borers for the grinding season. -The colored people will have some races at Julien LeBlane's race track on Sunday October 26. A large number of laborers left 1 Tuesday for the Billeaud Refinery, where they will make the grind. ing. All Saints Day, November 1st., will be next Saturday, and we are sorry to say that the cemetery is in a very bad condition. -Mrs. Theogene Bertrand, n6e Melanoon, died in St. Martin pa rish, Monday at the age of 97 years. She was buried from the Catholic Church here Tuasday. A good many of our cement ex perts make frequent visits to the cement sidewalks now being built ) here. Our people seem all satis fled that we will soon have a good system of cement sidewalks. Of - course we have a few fault finders who are never satisfied, and who can never be satisfied, we do not consider their foolish criticism.
