To Dr. Sherman's Agent, 151 Chartres street: Dear Sir—Having derived great benefit from the ' use of Dr. Sherman's Balsam, you will permit me ! to address a few lines to you. I have been troubled for a long time with a bad cough, together with raisiug blood, to such a degree that I could scarcely talk without coughing. A friend of mine advised uie to try Dr. Sherman's Balsam, and in less than two weeks after its use, I find myself perfectly well, and able to attend to my business. I have recom mended it to several of my friends, and in all cases with success. Yours, dear sir, with respect. J. E. BRISCOE, Clerk for T. L. White, 53 Canal st. Residence,24 Maria street. New Orleans STILL THEY COME ! Having accidentally become acquainted with the virtues of Dr. Sherman's All-Healing Balsam. I have no hesitation in declaiing that its use in my family warrants the assurance that it possesses all the gifted qualities attributed to it. In one case, where the medicine was taken on my recommenda tion. the effect was almost magical, as the Cough and Expectoration of mucus matter bore a strong analogy to a decided consumptive tendency. I be lieve a mote general knowledge of this medicine is only required to place it among the best curatives extant, for Consumption, Dyspepsia and other dis eases arising from a disorganized state of the stom ach and affections of the lungs. JAMES REESE, 13 Camp st., New Orleans: Mobile , December 7th. 1847. I hereby certify, that for 18 months I had been lingering under Consumption, and expected every day to be my last. Mr. [From the Niles Intelligencer.] Editor:— Dear Sir—Not the least of many rea sons that are urged for the support of General Cass for the Presidency, is that he represents in character and habits, that republican simplicity which dis cards all distinctions that tend to create in this country a European aristocracy. A little incident in the history of the Gen eral will show how far his republican simplicity in his habits entitles him to the support of that class of men whose only guarantee to prosperity and plenty is an honest industry, in (what some would term) the humbler pursuits of life. In 1848, when on his electioneering tour through Western Michigan, with his customary attendants, finding public ac commodations not very inviting to a taste that had been fashioned at a French Court, he called at a respectable looking > j f., rm j 10use too t, ta j n refreshments. Find • ! i the carriage and another individual, who ' r ing the occupants willing to accommo date, he instructed the lady to prepare a meal as soon as possible, for they were in a great hurry to proceed on their journey. Hastening to comply with the request of her distinguished guest, she was not long in preparing a dinner that would be palatable to the "Great Pioneer of the West, who bad spent the most of his life among the crags of the wilderness." Af ter the General and Dr. Hoton had taken their scats at the table, the lady inquired if she should call the rest of the company, which consisted oI the man that drove ' • in the company of French noblemen would have been called a servant. The General remarked to the Doctor that he had better adhere to his accustomed rule on such occasions, and then told the lady that they might wait till they were done. A great many reasons may be found to justify Gen. Cass for observing rules in a new and sparsely populated country, that originated with crowned heads and a profligate, oppressive aristocracy, but it is questionable in my mind whether the large class of voters in this western coun try, that are proud to earn their bread by the sweat of the brow, without any extra allowances, will support a man for Presi dent that would refuse to partake of the bounties of our common Creator and benefactor, at the table with others, simply because their honest vocation is regarded by the oppressors of mankind as degrad ing. A Plebeian. General Rules .—A Western paper establishes the following for the govern ment of al': It is contrary to order to write to an editor and omit to pay the postage. Contrary to order to write a commu nication for insertion and the writer with hold his name from the editor. Contrary to order to take a paper two or three years and then write that you re fuse it, permitting the editor to pay the postage. Contrary to order to knock at a printi ng office door. But it is always in ordei— To subscribe for a paper at home to make it good. To pay in advance. To write short sensible articles for the papers. To pay the postage on communica tions. To publish your card so that the public may know your business and locaJipS. To send substantial circulàl&Wo the printers of the important fact of your marriage. To write very plain for the printer. By observing these directions you will be a good citizen, live happy, and when yon die ascend among the **** in the up per case. flg^Who dare say that Cass will not support Taylor's administration?
