-"AN ACT, to ble entitled an act to
prescribe the rates of postage it the
Confederate States (f America, and
fbr other unrrposes.
SE.TION 1. The Congress of the.Com
i?.derate States of America do enact,
T'lhat from and after such period ais the
Postmaster General may by procla
muation announce, there shall be "charg
ed the folllwing rates of postage, to
wit: For every single letter sealed
and for every letter in manuscript ()1'
paper of any kind upon which intfir
ination shall he asked for, or conun11
nicate inwriting, or b1 marks or signs
convoyed in the tmail For any distan'ce
between places witllhii the CoUtfedrate
States of America, not exceeding 500)
tmilet , 6 cents: and fort any distance
',xceeding 500 miles, double' that rate:
