The cock crew long and lustily as the polls closed in this parish last Tuesday, announcing a grand and glorious Democratic victory won that day. The contest had been long and fierce, every inch of ground having been fought over, and the enemies of the grand old Democratic party were routed horse, foot and dragoons. The returns were slow coming in but by midnight Tuesday enough was known to indicate a democratic vie tory. Surprise upon surprise was in store for the Rej:ublicans, and disap pointment reigned supreme in their camp. Theboxes from below Iock port only reached here about Thurs day noon, and the returns were only tabulated yesterday by the board of supervisors of election.
