In its last issue, the Houma Courier says: 1 Great excitement was cans ed here last Wednesday night by the news that the well be ing drilled at the Lirette place, Lower Terrebonne, hac! broken loose and was throw ing sand and gravel way bove thè top of the derick, The great pressure of gas it was said was making things so lively that it was impossi ble to get near the well. Thursday morning a num ber of persons visited the well aud found that the reports were correct. This blow out is considered a sure Indication of the pre sence o&oil in the vicinity of the will, as the w«ll is ovet 1700 feet deep and thcfcgas can not be consi dered '^surface gas." «Mr. Pic ard who is superintending the boring of the well, who was in Igouma when the blow out began soon after for the scene of the drilling opera tions. ? The spouting well is a beau tiful si^ht, and the roaring eound can be heard for miles. Those who have seen it are convinced that Terrebonne will soon be a great oil field."
