"8?IN DASIrELL, (nee Percy.) a nam Of this Pariah, aged 65 years. ..-In Baton Roue, on Friday, her 12th, 1&7, ALMA 1EKs, wife of C. Dnie, aged 29 years 10 mouthle duet ,.e RIVER ITEMS. There is every 'prospect that the transfer or rather reship ping of Red River freight; brought out of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, will hereaf ter be effected. at this point. Since the mouth of Red Piver has been without a wharf boat, the business of reshipping has been done at New Orleans. There is no reason why this should not be done for the fu ture at Bayou Sara, and' ar abundance of good reasons why it should. Bay'ou Sara is now provided with one of the staunchest, roomiest, and best appointed as well best managed wharf-boats on the Mississippi river. Its loca tion is but scant 40 miles be low the mouth of .Red River, at a landing as good as any from St. Louis or Louisville to new Orleans : a point at which. nearly every boat traveling this portion of the stream in variably lands ; convenient to the facilities afforded by the ~ayou Sara coal. yard, it af fords inducements which ag gregated, can not be surpassed at any point upor. the river. Carrying freights to New Or leans tobe carried back, making a total orabout 400 rmilesofex tra transportation with atten dant risks and expenses is not to be thought . of as a PERMA NENT arrangement. It was adopted' only in lieu of a BET TER one, which latter is presen ted in the wharf-boat Louis ville, at the landing of Bayou Cara. The packets are' carrying cotton and seed in very rapid ly. Last Sunday morning the -Arkapolis patlket Katie, pass ed down with 2176 bales of cotton and 5765 sacks of seed. The same night the champi( n K. Ei. Lee pia-sed down with 4025 bales anld 2464 sacks. On the sanme trip, our local packet Gov. Allen went into port with a -sulendid trip, con sisting in part, of 1103 bile eitonl, 1341 sacks seed. 61 bbls syrup The Greenville packet Frank Pargoud passed Bayou Sara on Wedne-sdlav noon, considerably behind time, and carrying 2600 bales and 6:;00 sacks. Thlie ifmperial Thoinl;.eim Dean, for heir iritial trip of the sea:son had 1900 bales and 9300 sa:ks, passing down at 4 p. m. Tuesday. We are well supplied with boats now, the following mag nificent steamers arriving from New Orleans as specified be low: Tuesday, Katie, Wednries day, Lee; Thursday, Thomp son Dean; Friday, Pargotd, Sunday, Natchez. It requiresot early rising to catch either of these highflyers. Our local packets Gov. Allen & Ouachi ta Belle arrive respectively on, Tuesday and Saturday, and Thursday and Sunday. Thus every day except Mouday has its arrival and some of them two. Irumors of something "start ling"' about to break out in steam boat circles are omiin ously prevalent. The N. O. DEM,CRAT says;: "*Rumors were plentiful yes terday of a compromise of op posing interests,. of a partial t sale of one ofour line packets, and of more opposition on a large scale, and which will ex tend in more than one direc tion." We regret to see our river friends cutting each others throats, so to speak, but if tihe threatened "''opposition on a large scale" is the suc.e-sful instrument of reducing freiklis and fares to a reasonable fig ure, then we hail it as a wel come boon to traveling and commercial interests all along the line. Let thle figures go down, but not below living rates. $5 from Bayou sara to New Orleans was what such boats as the Keuner, the Cot- c ten, the Princess &c., charged and prospered on before thd war, and our present boats can and must come down to it now. While on her upward trip last Saturday n ight, the Ouaclhita steamer Bastrop struck a snag c'tusing her to make water freely and damag ing all freight in the hull. She was prevented sinking by use o'f bulkheads, and passed dowi1 on Wednesday to N. 0. for re pairs. The heavy rains of Tuesday and Wednesday have proven disastrous to the cotton crop in this section.
