NHAEFER, 13 School Street, Annapolis. (Pythian Building.) 5 18 \Ayers (Communicated. ) A Hope Realized May 25, 1905. Editors Evening Capital: Dear Sirs:—Beading the article “Plenty of Water” in the issneof May 13 of yonr valuable paper, thrilled me with Very great delight, because in if I read the realization of a hope, by me long and fondly entertained, and followed up by me by unremitting efforts, first, before the Legislature of Maryland, when Hon. Lloyd Lowndes was Governor, aud subsequently be fore the City Council of Annapolis, when Hon. John H. Thomas was Mayor, wherein I had the cordial co operation of Hon. Robert Moss, then Counsellor to the Board, aud again subsequently before the same Council when Hon. Richard H. Green was Mayor, wherein I had the cordial co operation of "Hon. W. Hallam Claude, then Counsellor to the Board, in my 3fforts to secure the adoption of a memorial to Congress, petitioning it to make an appropriation of money with which to improve the harbor of Annapolis, aud also to acquire addi tional grounds for the United States Naval Academy extending from Gov ernor, how Martin street, f along the lines of Hanover and King George streets to the water front. While all the members of the City Council, dur ing the administrations of Mayor Thomas and Mayor Green, both of whom took a deep interest in said proposed improvements, gave me their cordial co-operation in securing the adoption of said memorials, yet/;redit is tine principally to Hon. John Blight, then-chairman of the street committee, who always took the lead in all matters relating to said two memorials. He it was who introduced them both in the City Council and advocated them for good aud substan tial reasons. It was for this reason that several years ago "1 advocated the re-election of Hon. Sydney E. Mudd to Congress from tiie Fifth Congres sional District of Maryland, aud his retention in Congress as long as the harbor of Annapolis 'ami the United States Naval Academy needed a zealous friend and an ardent advocate on the floor of the United States House of Representatives, Very sincerely yours, JOHN MULLAN.
