Mach of the week wm very warm, bat cool weather and showers follow ed, and conditions as a whole were favorable for growth and work. Corn continues to grow very rapidly, and though in many instaces weeds had to be neglected until cultivation is im possible, color and general outlook are very encouraging. Early coru is shooting and tasseling in all sections. Oats harvest was advanced with dis patch in Northern-Central and Eas tern Maryland to a point very near completion. In Southern counties this crop has not recovered from the serious damage administered by heavv rain alter it was cut, while in Western counties many fields are lodged. Wheat thresh iug has attained an advanced state in Eastern Maryland, witli good yields and quality, but in Southern Mary land wheat resalts are very poor, ow ing to excessive wetting. What was threshed in Northern-Central counties daring the past week was damp, with fair to good results as regards quan tity. Haying has not yet been com pleted, moch grass being still .un cut. This crop is generally light and is being saved with much difficulty. Hnckwheat has a fine start. Plow ing for fall wiieat sowing has began. Early apples are plentiful, whiTe late varieies promise fair to good yields. A fair crop of pears iias be gun to ripen. Peaches also are ap proaching maturity, bnt are a light crop. Delaware plums are plentiful, bnt inferior in quality. Tobacco haß had too much rain. That on light soil is yellow and unpromising, and only fair condition is indicated on firmer ground. Tomatoes in Eastern coauties are ripening slowly and are weedy, and their outlook is not so good as heretofore. Late potatoes are doing well. Melons are developing finely, being ripe in Somerset coun ty lu Auue Arundel county threshing has beeu delayed, but so far shows poor wheat and oat crops, wheat being badly damaged by rain; corn grow ing finely aud is forming, bnt much has had little working; tomatoes fair aud are ripening; track good; melons promising; peaches rotting and ontlook poor. !
