Gadd. FEBRUARY HAS FIVE SUNDAYS THIS YEAR ! For the first time in 40 years there 'will be five i undavs in the coming Eel Ordinarily the sequence of i five Sundays in February rocurs once’ in each 22 years, but owing the. the ) r i i that 1000 was not ;t leap year, the |calendars "slipped a cog." and Sunday be ng shunted out of place in numeri : cal order, it did not get back into posi tion to become the first and last day of the month from 1880 until this year As mostoschool children know, the year 1900 was not a leap year. Those , who invented our present system of j computing time discovered rh.n adding one day in every four years was a frac tion too much, so the plan was hit! upon to make century years divisible] by 400 only leap yeirs. This, it was; found, evened things up nicely and i prevented January from eventually be coming a midsummer month, as might i have been the case some time in the | next f.0.0C0 years had not this been done The tits*, lime in the last century that February had five Sundays was in 1824. It happened again in 18ii2 and again in 1880, each period 28 years apart. Xfter this year the sequence will recur in 1948, 1976, 2006. 2024. 2062. 2090. and then, since 2100 will not he leap year, it will skip to 2120. Perhaps the question most in tin minds of those who are on a weekly pay ’oasis is as to Saturday, but these can he reassured somewhat by the knowledge that there will not be five 1 Saturdays in February until 1936. ; PROCEEDINGS OF CO. , TESTAMENTARY COURT i At ihe regular weekly meeting of • the Orphans’ Court of the Comity on Tuesday, the following business was - transacted: The first and linal account of Fer ! dinand W. The conserra’ion of health of our people, whether fn time of war or peace, is a national service, as well as a home duiy. The prevention of contagious dis eases is almost entirely a matter of home hygiene, and the responsibility for the maintenance of civilian health must be borne in the immediate future more and more by the women in our homes. That the women of our country arc not adequately prepared in the absence , of professional care to safeguard their homes from contagion, and to nurse their families in case of minor ill nesses, has been only too evident in I the recenc influenza epidemic, which ; has a casualty list of over four hun •dred thousand. j It is a wonderful advantage that this 1 coarse is brought to our doors, and it is hoped that it will be supported as ! it should he and thank C.od for the op ! portunity.
