Strange & White Co. 153-155-157 Main Street, Annapolis, Maryland ACTS OF VIOLENCE AT ARGENTINE ELECTIONS • Correspondence Associated Press,! Buenos Aires. Jan. S —The politi cal campaign for the election of new members of'rhe Argentine Chamber of Deputies nex: March has begun with acts of violence. The “opening gun" of the cam paign advertised to be tired by the democrats pregresista party at a mass meeting held at the San Martin Theater, turned out to be a real boiub exploded in the midst of the meeting by political opponents of the party. THE EVENING CAPITAL AND MARYLAND GAZETTE, ANNAPOLIS MARYLAND, THURSDAY, JANUARY *9, No one was seriously injured, al , t’tough there was a panic. lattejt when those who attended the meetiug were marching down street, they were attacked from a cafe by a grqnp of political opponents who threw, flower pots, plates, glasses, chains,- and tables at them, provoking some retaliation in kind. On the following night the same theater was packed by members of the Radical party, the one now in power. Struct manifestations follow , ed and some of the manifest an is. ■ stoned the office of a newspaper op . posed to the administration. j HO! HO! CHILDREN ! “CHO CHO; IS GOING i A Real, Sure Enough Clown To Entertain At Republic Theatre, Feb. 1 ”Y’S” HEALTH PROGRAM “Olio Oho,” a really, truly, sure 'nough clown, who hails from Toyland Center, the home of the famous Mr. S. Olaus. is coming to visit the children of Annapolis. It is said that he once made his liv ing painting stripes on baby zebras, born in circuses. However, that may be, “Oho Oho" is running a circus all his own now, and “turns ’em away” by the thousands, to use the language of the showman. Hundreds and thousands of children the past year in New York. Atlantic City. Baltimore, and many other places have gone in ecstaeies over this j wonderful clown, who teaches health facts in such a fascinating way that boys and girls do not know that they are benig taught at all. He has en tertained ten thousand at one?, and everywhere children fight, if neces sary to get into his performances. f “Better'n Charlie Chaplin” was the opinion vouchsafed by many a little New Yorker when he appeared there It seems almost too good to be true that “Cho Cho” is actually going to be in At r.apolis, and there will not be long to wait. Next Monday. February! 2. is the time, and the Repifblic theatre the place. There will be two performances, one at 10:30 and the. other at 1:30. Grown-ups aren’t in vited. but if there is room, those es pecially interested may come in and) stand ?! the back of the theatre. No admission will be charged. “Cho j Cho” wouldn’t allow that because hej would feel very sorry, indeed, if any boy or girl were kept away because of j the price. Besides, the Young Wo men's Christian Association wants to give this treat to Annapolis school children. Members of the Y. W. C. A. are making special contributions to pay all expenses. Miss Sutherland. District Nurse, was very anxious to secure “Cho Cho" for performances in Annapolis when he visited Baltimore over a month ago, but all of his time was booked ahead and nothing could be arranged. Only a w eek ago. through Mr 3. Ware. : t County Truant Officer, the Y. W. C. A. |- x learned that it would be possible to get him to come now before he starts on a long Western tour, i County Superintendent of , George Fox thinks the entertainment ' so interesting and important that he is ! arranging to have every teacher in An- j napolis take her children to one of the 1 performances. County schools may > dismiss and come if the teacher comes j with the children and brings at least fifty percent. Pupils from the Anna polis grammar school, Eastport and St. Mary’s School will attend the ■ morning performance. I Those from Germantown. West Annapolis, the private schools, and the county are to come in the afternoon. Mr. Miller, one of the city’s public spirited citizens, is most kindly giving the use of the Republic; Theatre with- j i; out any charge because “Cho Cho” teaches health and Mr. Miller, as well ! ■as the members of the Young Women’s I ~) Christian Association, wants Annapo- I lis boys and girls to know this entranc ing circus clown. r I Those who have the November num ber of the Cross magazine will 1 find in it a most .Interesting account of j “Clio Cho” and his work. The first half ended 15 to 11 in favor of the .Midshipmen, but Weiner's two ; iield goals at the start of the second i period tied the score. Past worthy Byerly and Burkholder and Watters' steady shooting from the foul line I save the Midshipmen a safe margin j soon after and they scored more rap idly as. the half progressed. Individually, there was to l choose between the teams and tlie j outcome appeared very doubtful un | til the second period was well on its vay. Cuneo shot splendidly from the i mart and foul line in the* first half, but in file second period his form changed for the worse in the later particular. Scheurieh found the bas ket but once, but he played in good form and worked well with the other players. Bverly and Watters were far the best for the Midshipmen, the former doing the best shooting of his life, some of his shots being of the sen sational order, including two thrown over his shoulder.
