Davis this morning held five of the 10 negroes charged with participation in the assault upon Deputy Sheriff James Crouse, at the Rock Creek colored campmeeting on Sunday, Septem ber 1, for the action of the October Grand Jury. The negroes held were Harry Sim pson, Henry Murray, “Dick” Butler, Joshua Day and Etta Twiman, alias ••Black Etta.” John Mann, Emery John son, “Ben” Gladden and Edward Powell were discharged. The case was one in which great inter est was manifested, and the testimony showed that Deputies Crouse and Small wood were set upon in away to make marvelous their escape with their lives. Bo many prisoners were involved and there were so many witnesses that the nearing had to be held in the Circuit Courtroom Instead of Justice’s offices. THEY MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD.
