MAY 21, 1908 THE FAITHFUL 006. , We recall that we once read a news paper article which was concluded with i the words: “ The more 1 see of men, the more I think of the dog.” While the J canine has many sins to answer for, rang ing from muddy feet to hydrophobia, we ] sometimes feel inclined to transpose the phrase say that the more we see of the dog, the leas we think of men —by comparison. Some of the newspapers the other day published aa interesting story of a dog < that palled a four-year-old child out of ■ the water and then rushed home, panting with its exertions, to summon assistance. Its well meant efforts were mistaken for ] evidence of an attack of tabbies, and its I owner promptly broke its head with an axe. Despite its fearful wounds, the dog to lead the way to where it had laid its half diowned playmate and then ] crawled off Into the weeds to die. Who pm deny that the dog showed qualities of courage, generosity, forgiveness and for* ( bearance far above those of the average man or woman ? Contemplating his extraordinay display of faithfulness and affection we are forced I to conclude that men, even if “pillars in the church,” need not pride themselves on possessing a monopoly of the Christian graces. Very little of their performance i would square with that of the dog. [ i SCHOOLS THAT HAVE CLOSED. OF INTEREST TO DEMOCRATS. The National Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has begun active operations as its headquarters at Wash ington, D. C. In addition to its regular work, it is now preparing a Campaign liand book which it hopes to have ready for distribution by July I—two or three months earlier than heretofore. The Committee is charged with the duty of assisting, in every way possible, the election of a Democratic Congress We wish the active co-operation of every voter in the United States who believes, with us, that the election of a Democratic Congress would greatly benefit the coun try. We must rely upon the people to sustain our work by giving information as to local conditions, and suggestions for our guidance. Each individual can at least aid us by making a contribution. Will he not do so and interest others in helping us too? We wish our Campaign hand-book dis tributed as generally as possible, and we will furnish a copy, as soon as published, to every one who contributes to our Com mittee. Rheumatism causes more pain and suffering than any other disease, for the reason that it is < he most common of all ills, and it is certainly gratifying to sufferers to know that Chamberlain's Pain Balm will afford relief, and make rest and sleep possible. In man* cases the relief from pain, which is at first' temporary, has become permanent, while in old people subject to chronic rheumatism, often brought on by damq ness or changes in the weather, a per manent cure cannot be expected; the re lief from pain which this liniment af fords is alone worth many times its coat. 25 and 60 cent sizes for sale by Brad shaw’s Pharmacy.
