' Dear Sir:- In reference to an editorial which ap peared in The Cambridge Record on the 28th ultimo un der the caption. ‘ Democratic Nominees,” I wish to ex press an opinion which is that of a layman who is inter ested as a democrat, and who believes in fair play. A word will not be amiss regarding the ability of the editor. He possesses all the versatility and qualities of a newspaper man. I believe the late Elbert Hubbard would have given him a perfect average. It was Mr. Hubbard who said that the world had produced two great writers, Shakespeare was one and he, himself, was the other. Surely, we none can question Mr. Hubbard’s ability. The world owes him much. He put many Hor ati on the bridge; he has made many Perrys cry out over that great expanse of water, “Don’t give up the ! ship.” Yet he never concealed the idea that such work ■ was his vocation from which he received bountiful emol | uments. Our accusation is not that the editor penned . but we must conclude that he juggled facts for the in the eulogy on the last primary for pecuniary motives; ! terest of a lamentable few who have been running the > Democratic party for the last several years. So much for. you, Mr. Editor; the stage is set. The facts seem to show that the means used in the last Pri mary election were not strickely on the level. Choicest words can not be suitably used to describe the methods used in the last primaries due to the little and unscru pulous acts that were worked, clandestinely, by those whom we have trusted with the sacred leadership of our party in the County. i O, ye Gods! How much longer will your effrontery continue to baffle our citizens! Assuming that your character sketches of the candidates are true, we must differ with you regarding the selections thereof. In dif eanse of the defeated candidates Ave need not speak in the language of eulogy, because these men themselves and all the enlightened A'oters of the county know the cause of the preesent result. The time is ripe when avc must haAe a renoAation in the democratic party of Dorchester county. The so called organization is no longer a democratic party but almost an autocratic party. Men of character and in telligence who love the principles of Jefferson, and have aUvays been ardent democrats haA-e become apathetic, and many have become utterly disgusted and have allied themselves Avith the opposite party rather than to march under a false standard. We lament the fact that this plight of affairs exists, but there must be an aAvaking before a Renaissance. A few concrete examples of Avhat exists in the loAver part of the county. Surely Ave have no party other than on election day. At other times we haA-e a man who has the diA-ine right of kings. He askes no adAise for recom mendations. He doesn’thave to because his word is su preme. In the last primaries it Avas real astounding to watch the efforts of so called organization after “He” , had given his word of honor? that the organization would take no part in the selection of the candidates. I really Avonder if the populace, e\*en ten per. cent., be lieve that the “Big Cheese” in Cambridge kept bis Avord. Even the most illiterate in my neighborhood knew about the action of the so called organization. 3 Noav the editor methinks has a misconception of what a real sport is. A real sport fights a clean game, I and goes to defeat Avithout a single excuse providing his opponent has fought the same clean game; but one is only a weakling and a coward Avho Avould stand for the methods used and practiced in our County at the present J time. ViA-e the King! “Fair Play”’ Blrdye Todd. Note:- We publish the above letter by request. The writer states he offered it as a communication for publi cation to the Democrat & neAvs, the Cambridge Record | and the Daily Banner and that all of these papers re_ i fused to publish it. ♦ ( ( The Republican Ticket STATE COMPTROLLER OLIVER METZEROTT Of Prince George’s County STATE SENATOR FRED R. MOTOR 1 ROUBLES Lack of original power and pep, Use of an excessive amount ot gas and oil, Spark plugs continually fouled, Is choppy, especially when idling, Oil in crank case thinned with gasoline, New and expensive rings bring no results. All can be cured by REGRINDING! White Manufacturers of all high grade cars have long since reco gnized the value of ground cylinder bores, the average car owner is still in the dark. It is, however, so vitally important in help ing the engine functioning properly that careful thought and study should be given it by every driver. Not only on new motors, but is is equally true on worn or scor ed cylinders to bring them back to their original condition it re quires grinding, together with the fitting of new’ pistons, rings, and pins. In order that a motor may work properly and be correctly carbu rettod, the cylinder must be accurately ground so that the diameter does not vary more than .001 part of an inch as to rfmndnesa, and the hole must be straight and absolutely square with the base of the cylinder. The pistons will then be free to operate without be ing in a cramped position, thus inducing undue friction, notee and danger of scoring.
