have no opinion to eupress on that subject, all
that we can say to you dear brothers, is-don't
do it, we pray yo; cause why, .you ought not.
Oh, nol Please don't.
What is the next step ? Why, two of the
moif otorious southern delegates, Kenneth
Raynor,nlt N. C. and Neal S. Brown, Ex-Gov.
of Tennesseeyou nly declared in Ihiladclph t
and N. Yorip tpt this antionl platform ofli
not pro-slavery. Theiro y first speech made
in ratification meeting in Phila., was by Ex
Gov. Brown'of Tenn. who avowed and declared
that that platform "was ntot PRho-suAvv," sby
this declaration, yielding nmore fully knd doci
dedly to the olaims of free-soilism, in the terri
tories through congressional legislation. a4.
The next step comes more diredly ,omo to
us, one of the Louisiana delegates to congress,
Mr. Huntvoted against the passage of the
Kansas Nebraelska bill, and that bill; fully deo
nles to ongress, tihe power to legisiate on
slaveryin the territories; the know. nothings
of Mr. H's district have re-nominated him for
Congress, who, if elected, will go urs the ortl
inrepealing that bill, thus endorsing f north
ern sentiment of frec soil and no more slave
states.
Truly is the notorious Mr. Hale, rapidly ac
complishing his design of abolitioniingll the
south, by means of xxow :oTINoIeMx.
In yielding the great principle im te-.trri
vnriox, tby congress, otth'o question of 4lave
ry, the south yields every thing, and when shoe
Is forced to give it up, the union eanno longer
be preserved, indeed it would not be worth
preoserving.
The southern know nothings HAVE YIEL
DED that principle by declaring emphatically
that they pretermit the e2.pressiod of any opin
ion uposs it; their most renowned southern doel
egates declare that their platform is not pro
slavery, Louisiana know nothings have endors
ed these declarations and the only hope for
the south is in the firm resistance of the dem
ocracy with the aid of true southern whigs.
Such are the northern priciples of the know
nothing national platform; the mark of the
boeast is upon it; will Loulsianans be deceived
and lead, by their eacts, to betray and curse
their own soil? NATIVE SOUTH.
