Dw;gnt Gate-mouth Moore, one of the greatest blues singers of all times, turned down a million dollars in show business to become a minister and a saver of soul . and a missionary of God. Rev. Moore was born in Topeka, Kansas, November 9, 1913. He started singing, when he was only nine - age. In 1933 he moved to Memphis, Tenn. where he arose from an obscure blues singer on Beale street, to become the greatest of his day. He played the world famous Club he Lisa in Chicago's famous Southside, and on January 16th, 1S19, he was called to preach by God. I He was licensed by the Rev. Clarence Cobs of Chicago, also one of the most fabulous preachers in the country today. Rev. Moore's first religious program was a complete failure, did that stop the great “Gatemouth" the answer is no. He continued to preach and he found himself and now he has his own church Faith Temple located at 702 2nd Avenue North, in Birmingham. Alabama. Here many many gospel meetings are earned on and many souls saved by this great young preacher of the gospel. His most noted sermon was from a casket. Caroline Or Illinois Is The New Red Grange In a recent article that appeared in a national magazine, it was said that the Junior C. C. Caroline of the University of Illinois is the new Red Grange. The skinny legged Mr-w. from Columbia, South Carolina, led the nation in yardage gained with a total of 1256 yards in 194 tries, for an average of 6.5. He also set a new record, and broke the old i eeord set by the Galloping Ghost Red Grange, back in 162.;. He went 1670 yards to break the record of 1260. Caroline was chosen on the censensus Ail-Americar team the Illini, sophomore to be honored since Red selectou way back in '23. J. C. has had it hard running every since he was an infant and unlike other star athletes, he is popular on the Uni ■•.vsity of Illinois campus and is not resented by his teamma-cs or his fellow students. Last year he failed in some subjects because of some per sonal appearances and had to remain in summer school so that he would be eligible for this years team. # Red Grange said “If ho should continue the presew pace — and as a loyal Illinois allummis, I sure home he does—foot ball fans will be asking Who was that Guy Red Grange.
