at Coleman College, Cibsland and from there went to Bishop
College and later to Iceland College, where he received the

A supplemental general election ballot of Koosevelt
Truinan pledged presidential electors Thursday, November
1, was approved by the Mississippi Legisature in extra
ordinary session called by Governor Thomas L. Bailey, with
onl\ three votes against the proposal designed to assure de
livery of Mississippi’s nine electoral ballots to the Democratic
National Convention nominees. As a result of several elec
tors had expressed their contemplating voting for Senator
Byrd of Virginia, the extraordinarv session was called.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt was given the "go
ahead" sign by the American people to serve our nation for
4 more years. 11 is electoral vote was 415 to US for that of
his opponent, (iov. Thomas K. Dewey. His popular vote was
23,071,640 to that of 20,277,006 for (iovernor Dewed. The
new Vice-President elected is Harry S. Truman, of Mis
souri.
There were also 31 governorships decided on election
day, November 7, 1944,
Japanese officials were very excited when Marshal Sta
lin's blunt "aggressive” nation reference to Japan in his
Russian Revolution anniversary speech. It clearly reassert^
%d Russian approval of Anglo-American proposals for total
elimination of Japan as a threat to peace in the Pacific.

GREENWOOD—
Report of the financial drive at the Mt. < >livc M. B.
Church ou Sunday, October 29, 1944 of which Rev. P. R.
Shelton is pastor.
The purpose of the drive was, to raise money to repair
the church, 'flic Lord, was with thisdrive and the whole
occasion was a blessed success.
The following churches cooperated in the drive one hun
dred percent: Mt. Zion M. B. Church, pastored by the Mo-1
derator of the Palo Alto District Rev. B. J, Sykes was pre
sent and contributed $71.05. also rendered other valuable
service. Holmes Chapel M. B. Church*pastored by Rev. G.
\Y. Lee, contributed $22.21; First Baptist M. B. Church pas
tored by the Vice-Moderator, Rey. A. J. Maxwell, contri
buted $20.30; Walnut Grove and Thankful M. B. Church
pastored by Rev. D. R. Robinson, contributed $12.85; Ml.
Nebo Methodist Church, pastored by Rev. S. C. Carter, con
tributed $4.50. total amount from these churches was $128.41.
Mt. (Hive M. B. Church $118.81. In a contest which was
also closed on this day the winning contestants were Sis
ter Josephine Davis. $63.01 and Bro. 1). (. Kidd. $100.4<>.
The total amount raised in the contest was $207.17. making
a grand total of $581.81. K.ach member played well bis part
and the church is grateful for the friends who helped to
make this drive a success.
