nn application of tubes to rocdi, which
materially increase the volume of tone,
and at tho tamo timo destroy the wlroy,
metulic sound of tho reed. Thia tlrm also
make use of tho celebrated " Vox Hu
mana, " or ' Fan tremolo," und also tho
famous " Vox Celeste " atop, tbo uso of
which has created auch nn outcry among
older manufacturers, wbo And it impossi
ble, with their stylo of bend und voicing
to moko a good job of it.
It is comparatively but a brief period
sinco this firm bgun to make instrument
upon a large scale, nnd oiler them to tho
public nt largo through dealers, tho homo
demand having taken their entire produc
tion heretofore, but wo are informed that
the oxperienco of this bouse dates buck to
the year 1830, and it is these years of care
ful study and experiment which combine
In make their Organs,in many resjiecUjiu
pcrior to thoao of other makers.
Tho musical editor ot tho Superior
(Wis.) 'Times' makes mention of them ns
follows: "We are impressed with all wo
read and know of the 'Simmons & Clough
Organ.' Contrary to tho practlco of
many othcrestnblishmcnt, this Arm hnvo
flrst inailo n reputation for their noblo In
strument, und then advertised them. It
is a mystery to us outsiders what they nro
advertising for, a tbo demand for these
Organs now exceeds tho supply. Tho
great demand for them, in fact, has com
pelled tho company to put up a new man
ufactory ut a cost oi nearly 1100,000.
There aro only three instruments of tho
cabinet organ class in America that we
should foel ealitlled in purchutlng, and
of the thrco wo far prefer the instrument
mado by Simmons & Clough. It can
render all stylos of music, from the
thunders of church organ diapason to tbo
ftralru of a line military band, or th ex
