chair stb man R B Blithch and J S Gran tD tham present I Minutes of the last meeting were UJ read and approved It A communication was read from Mr nit Peter Loos a patron of the Kendrick wlt school making complaint that the sI teacher at Kendrick was teaching his ed children the Sunday school lesson and he seriously objected to his children tal being taught ary Scripture in the pub liri lic schools Mr Loos asked that the aJ board stop the teacher from teaching f the Sunday school lesson in the RI school The superintendent stated yt that he had twice requested the teach d er not to teach the Sunday school les ut son in school so long as any patron 18 objected I After considering the matter the su ce perintendent was instructed to notify Q1 the teacher to dispense with teaching p the Sunday school lesson in the tL school or having the children read it toi tb during school hours t br Communication was read signed by n two of the trustees of the Fantville Yej school asking the board to accept as Agi school property an organ which the at patrons of the Fantville school had et bought and put in the school house Aft r considering this matter the Krf board decided that the trustees had no se authority to give to the said county by board said organ and the county 1 board had no authority to accept such offer without the consent of patrons Ot now in the school who contributed to wards the purchase of the organ Mr Ben Freymoutn appeared before Vj the board and asked that the board du sell to Mrs Smith of Martel the old t Martel school house and lot claiming wI p4 that it was the will of the trustees K that the lot be sold to Mrs Smith hi jl As the county board understood that the trustees thought the lot should be art tEl deeded back to James Cribbou who ti gave it as soon as the house on the xl ms j land can be disposed of the secretary l11 it was instructed to refer the matter he if back to the trustees as it was for R Jl their district and ask they carefully rrlt consider the question and recommend H jfi to the county board what in their t judgment best to do for the interest rn L of the school and at the same time to < l be impartial to all parties no money had been paid out during the past month The chairman of the sent committee I reported that only three seats were ready Those who had promised them seem to be in no hurry to get them ready that she felt a delicacy in i mentioning the matter too often but lived in hopes that they would be i ready before the next meeting 1 Mrs D M Smith reported that she i would have the trees planted along the new cemetery work just as soon as it rained She had also interview ed Judge Bullock about moving the barbed wire fence next to the walk i and that he very graciously said he I would do so at once She was in structed to continue until the good I work was done I Mrs MacKay was absent therefore no report was made about the old building in front of the Methodist church Mrs Maughs was also Daily I The retiring board of county com missioners held its last session Mon day But one of its members go out viz Hon Henry W Long who has been serving as a member continuous ly for the past sixteen years and has been president of the board during that period Each member of the board express ed to Mr Long his regrets upon his retirement and told how well he had served the county and in what es teem he is held personally After each ntember had testified to Mi Longs worth the following pre amble and resolutions were introduc ed and passed by a rising vote Whereas the Hon H W Long the esteemed chairman of this board has for thirtyseven years been in the pub lic life of our county and during this long period of time has rendered to the county of Marion faithful and ef ficient service in
