On Monday evening last about G31 I
there was an exciting scene ih the
vicinity of Vest End and East Me i
chanic streets in Gainesville the cen
ter of this excitement being drccod iI
at the building occupied by Attorney
i B A Thrasher There had bye i
heard says the Sun of that city five i
pistol shots and persons residing hi

the vicinity of the community b ur
immediately to imagine all kinds ot
disorder and an officer was summon
ed i
Marshal Pinkoson answered the
summons and entering the place ar
rested Attorney Thrasher who uses
the room as an office
Col Thrasher was taken to the
mayors court on Tuesday morning
When requested to remove his hat he
refused and it was removed by
Marshal Pinkoson who received the
thanks of the defendant When re
quested to take a certain chair in or
der to be arraigned Attorney
Thrasher refused to do so remarking
that the chair in which he was seated j
was very comfortable whereupon

Pinkson to take defendant to jail for i
contempt of court j
Col Thrasher contends that he is
not in contempt of court as he had I
never been arraigned In fact he i
claims that the mayor never an I
nounced the opening of court and 1
that he has not as yet been made ac
quainted with the charge upon which

Resolved That we the legislature
of the state of Florida do enact a I
la w to protect stock game and abate
a general nuisance
I
Sec 1 That all dogs male and fe
male shall be taxed The net pro
ceeds of which shall be applied to the I
school fund of the counties where the
taxes are collected
i
Sec 2 Xo person shall have more
I
than five dogs Every dog male or fe
male shall be taxed one dollar EmI
I
in eases where a person has more I
than one dog the tax shall be one
I
dollar for one two dollars for the sec
ond dog three dollars for the third
dog four dollars for the fourth dog
and five dollars for the fifth dog I
Sec o The county commissioners
of each county are hereby required to
furnish all owners of dogs who
have paid their taxes with a collar
bearing the official mark of the com I
missioners This act provides for the
post of collars and assessors and col
lectors compensation to be paid out

Sect Be it enacted as a more per
fect protection of our game birds I
especially quail that a tax of ten dol
lars be levied and collected on all
