ton and Weathers present-

H. Martin, county attorney, Mr. J. E. j
Walker, county engineer, and Messrs, j
J. M. Douglas, E. L- Mills and E H.
Hopkins, commissioners elect, met j
with the board upon request.
A number of citizens were also
present.
The chairman announced that this ■
meeting was called for the purpose of
a general discussion of the affairs
of the county.
Mr J. E. Wa'ker discussed the re
vision of certain elements in the
plans of State Road No.. 5, in this
county, as made by the State Road
Department, stating that should the
State a low a slight revision of the
grading, as planned, that the saving
would be approximately SSOO per mile,
also that should the department fur
nish ihe rock for surfacing the road,
from the plant at Pineola, that the
county could possib y ,nish the road
within department regulations and
within the funds available. Mr. Walk*
er stated that should the county pur
chase the rock for the surfacing this
road that the cost of the rock to
gether with freight on same would be
approximately $37,000.00 thus leaving
an amount of money from the bond
proceeds that would be insufficient to
k comp ete tha project.
The board requested Mr- Walker
to complete plans for the revision
designed, and when completed, to
present same to the State Road De
partment. being accompanied on the
trip to Tallahassee by Dr- J. G. Bas
i
kin, of the bond trustees and a com
mittee from the board.
Commissioner Waters met with the
board.
Mr. Jno. H. Taylor, chairman of the
bond trustees stated that the bond
trustees had received from the pro
ceeds of the sale of bonds $506,663.04.
That bills paid for work on the south
end of State Road No. 2, in Marion
county in amount of $114,661.50 that
bil s for work on the north end in
amount of $5,564.81, and expense of
engineer of $19.25, total expenditured
$120,245.56, leaving a balance in bond
fund, after payment of October bills,
in amount of $386,417-48.
. Mr. Walker stated he had planned
a maintenance program for the roads
now in existence, by placing a crew
on each certain number of miles,
without regard to lines of commis
sioners districts and the certain parts
ox the reads to be rebuilt to be work
ed by other crews, requesting that
all read men report to him, at the
court ge Saturday morning at
9 o’clock in order to recognize the
forces-
A number of those present express
ed themselves well pleased with the
plans, believing that it wouid go far
toward the solution of the road prob
lems in the county.
These present entered into a disv
eussion concerning the various phases
of the work and the duties of the
county engineer.
The board thereupon adjourned.

The board of county commissioners
met in regular session with Commis
sioners Meffert, Waters, Ciyburn and
Weathers present.
Minutes of November 7th, and No
vember 22nd were read and approved.
Mr. J. E- Walker, county engineer
made a report of his trip to Talla
hassee in behalf of the bonded roads
in this county. He Siated that Chair
man Philips and Engineer Cocke are
in favor of the State furnishing the
rock to be used on State Road No- 5.
That they approved the plan of the
board completing the base of State
Road No. 2 from the limits of the
city of Ocala, to the turn of the road.
He stated that he received very lit
tle eneouiagement in the matter of i
an immediate application of a wear
ing surface of the base of State Road
Nc. 2. but that the State is abcut to
buy a distributor and that probably
their assistance cou'd be secured. Mr.
Walker asked the board to approve
of an expenditure of $890.00 for the
purpose of strawing the roads in the
National Forest, stating that the gov
ernment would furnish a like amount,
which met with the approval of the
board. He asked that the board take
up the matter of claim of Mrs. K. H.
Cements and effect some satisfactory
agreement between her and Mr. R. L.
Martin in regards to the right-of-way j
of the Dixie Highway.
Dr. C- E. Kiplinger called and com- I

and the board was unable to grant
any relief on account of the time for
complaints having passed.

ticultural and Agricultural report for
the year 1922 which was examined
and upon motion of J- A. Talton.
seconded by R. L. Ciyburn. same was
approved and ordered sent to. the
commissioner of agriculture.
Upon motion of J. A. Talton.
seconded by E. B. Weathers, E.
Seiiven and Horace Hartsfield were
ordered placed on the pauper list at

It was ordered that advertisement
be inserted in the local paper calling
for bids on' trucks and road equip
ment in accordance with list to be
furnished by the county engineer

heretofore filed against the granting
a road along the section line of sec
tion 28, 17 and 23, was reordered

Mr. H. S. Chambers appeared and
asked relief for assessment of per
sonal taxes on a truck used in the
county service, ;and upon motion of
E. B. Weathers, seconded by G. A.
Waters, the tax collector was direct
ed to allow Mr. Chambers to pay the
assessment on this truck in amount
of $2.50 the balance to be reported
as an error.
Upon motion several warrants on
the Outstanding Indebtedness
were ordered drawn.
The l oard having investigated the
lands upon which Mr. C. E- Connor,
has heretofore requested relief in re
demption and ascertained that the
building on same has burned down,
subsequent to sale thus making the
valuation of same excessive, the board
recommended to the Comptroller that
he allow Mr. C. E. Connor to redeem
lots 3 to 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 to 33,
Connors subdivision of block 3, O. S.
Ocala, in certificate No. 1176. of sale
of June 7, 1915, upon payment of the
face of certificate and omitted years
taxes, without interest.
Upon motion the board ordered that
$350.00 be transferred from repairs
to county buildings; $300.00 to super
visors of registration and $50.00 to
expense of elections in the general
fund, and directed the clerk to write
the Comptroller and request that he
approve said transfers.
Petition was received requesting
the establishment of a public road as

range 21, east, thence running west
on the section line approximately
three or four miles to the Dunnelion
hard road. And upon motion of R.
L- Ciyburn, seconded by G. A. WTaters,

George Buhl, were appointed a com
mission to view and mark out the
said route.
Bond for license to carry a pistol,
submitted by Mr. J. W. Gardner, was
not approved.
Upon motion of J. A. Talton, second
ed by E. B. Weathers, and carried,
charges against the county were ap
proved and ordered sent to the bend
trustees for payment.
