rt kO t* if vvAc®.4 "1^ JOHNSON. ,S -S fflflSMr at L,aw« Proofs Made and Con tests Defended. Flotsam Jetsam SHEECH BY R. W. DALZIEL Before Government has been, from the mo. primativo times down to the present, an object of deepest solicitude. Ali throngh ages past and gone, the rich have sehjemed to govern the maese* for their personal benefits, while among ithc, masses there have always been some bright minds who were always busy esti mating the advantages to the peo pie of a government wholly for thorn and ^striving to lead theru to the light. Upon successful government depends the wel-. fare and happiness of the whole world That nation which speedily puts into practical working elfec-t the principles o: .socialism, which means sim|lv a govern pient of and by and always for the people, •will have taken a gigantic stride toward .ushering into just and deserving recog nition the deep truth in the time* won words—the universal Fatherhood iGod and the universal brotherhood o! man. And every person intrusted ii securing equal laws and just govern ment for the people and making effort* in that direction, still unfamilar with socialistic plans, will do well toirest 01 his arms sufficiently long to acquire t\ most thorough familiarty with the teach ings and principals of socialism. Foi if he does not, the chances are many that he will discover after much hard toil that he has been laboring and voting wholly against the interests nearest his heart. While it is yet many months and ever years before even the most hopeful can expect to see the people of the world be ginning to enjoy the benefits of absolute just .government.- Still there is scarce ly a person who in his immagination car not see the billowy waves of the goldei harvest of happiness and peace and plenty, resultant from a government "of ^nd by and for the people," and the flag of his political party proudly floating above it 9II. The name on that flag is important. It must be a nfim& that stands for justice and purity a name that has stood the test of time, that has triumphed in every struggle—that has always represented the highest attain ment in provision of peace and happi ness to the people—that satisfies the longing' of'the bursting heart of the great suffering world. The name '/social ism" is world-renowned. That name means peaca and plenty for all—the en tire abolition of privation and misery— the utter destruction of the hienioue frame-work of the present unequal in dustrial system of the world, and the in stallation in its place of a system based upon the teachings of the Christ. The exclusion of want and worrying from the minds of the workers—the emanci pation of the white slaves pf the world, and their reconstruction into the uni versal brotherhood of man. The princples of the socialist party comprehend within themselves the true genius of the business they are expected to accomplish. They win warm sup porters among all nationalities and their phenomenal popularity is largely and we must Bay justly due to the fact that they may always be depended upon to find a warm place among the vital sym pathies of any worker of today. The principles of socialism are the most rational principles in the world, and'are readily accepted by any mind capable of even the most rudimentary reasoning Rational principles are well worth in vestigating, they are the only kind worth supporting. It is the reasonableness of socialistic principles that has put untold hundreds of busy men and women to work desseminating them throughtout the world. If you farm, clerk, teach, keep books or manufacture,.you should at your first opportunity, thoroughly acquaint yourself with the socalistic line of thinking. Do you think socialism anew doctrine? Are you possessed with the impression that the socialist party is a babe, a weak ling? Let me advise you that socialism long ago passed the critical and dis couraging years of an infancy most strongly characterized by determined opposition and fiercest warfare' and to day stands out before all the world like a gigantic, Well and symmetrically de veloped tree. It has sent its mighty, nutrient-carrying roots deep down into the fertile soil of hundreds of thousands of liberty loving hearts and they in turn have sent out their feeders, great and small, and laid firm hold, upon that rich •oil so thoroughly, so recently, so con tinually moistened by tears of privation fe and want and mental misery. Its powerful, well formed trunk ^peaches high into the bright sunshine of dawning success, and is stimulated by the invigorating fresh air of the cer tainty of glorious victory of the near future and challenges to duel the might iest gale of capitalistic opposition thai •i|can ever rush upon it, and its great, lov swaying branches, bright and green 4with hope and promise, are rapidly at "V "xracting from the ranks of opposing forces some of the strongest intellects 4 ithat ever guided the energies or deter jnined the destines of human hearts, »nd we are strong, not weak, and it is ^ftime to hope aad not dismay. $||| The Creator made us to enjoy life and 'to have all the good things in this worjd -. Necessary to our well-being, and moral .^ and spiritual growth. He never made tis to limp along the starvation line. The#e are enough reeources in the world 1 to make everybody well, happy and con- 4 tented. T'he object of the socialist party of today in the perfect fulfillment of the Divine intention that all members of the hutoan race should use and, enjoy in ab solute equality the earth treasures so vi^richhtbestcfoed'iiriove. Is'sueh an ob '. ject less than -holy? Is it wortjljr of less -than one whole-hearted promOfioii? A- we®k.J.7 NOXIOB FOB PUBLICATION.
