Ryder now has daily train serv ice thru that town on the new Soo extension. Current report has it that the lid at Glenburn has been slammed down for keeps. Good water has been located all along the new Berthold branch of the Great Northern. The Flaxton Times served a hot roast on the Kenmare base ball management last week. Thirty-nine barrels of booze were shipped out of the town of Glenburn one day last week. The new hospital at Kenmare is said to be large enough to ac commodate twenty patients. On and after August 15th the Soo line will run a daily train to and from Minot and Bismarck. Aurelia, the first ne^v town on the Berthold branch, is clamor ing for a bank and a drug store. Sixteen young men at Glenburn have signed up articles and that town is now assured of a brand new brass band. The Sawyer Telephone com pany have their exchange com pleted and have installed rbout fifty new 'phones in that town. The Blaisdell News is the latest venture in the newspaper line in Ward county, and Mayor Hoff of Palermo says its a very good paper- A lot of grading is being done in and around White Earth in order that the farmers tributary may get to town easier with their produce. The Great Northern may build a half-way house at Stanley for the pnrpose of stalling a couple of engines to be used in case of blizzards. The application for a pardon for Bill Graves, who was convict ed for murdering his wife three years ago, was rejected by the state board of pardons. Last week the Great Northern depot at the town of Tagus was burned to the ground, and the cause of the fire is said to have resulted from the explosion of a lamp. The manager of the Stanley ball team hired an outsider to do the catching during a game and afterwards accused the catcher of working in cahoots with the other side- The Donnybrook Courier has gained twenty new subscribers in the last two weeks. It has cut the patent insides and prints its own paper. So much for home industry. A sad accident at Kenmare was that of E. W. Harris. When he was unhitching his team his lit tle 2-year-old boy got under the wheels of the wagon and was al most instantly killed. A county division meeting was held at Stanley recenty and the enthusiasts decided to call their new county Mount Trail, the same name it was before it was annexed to Mighty Ward. A lot of political money is said to te in use in Ward county to knock out the North Dakota Newspaper Union's patent in sides, and many of the county papers have discarded patents entirely. Last week fire destroyed the post office and general store at the town of Goss out in western Ward. The store was owned by G. W. Bennett, who was also the postmaster. This town was re cently started and is located near Thompson lake. It is reported that McKinney township has served an injunc tion on the Graves Telephone company restraining them from operating the line recently put into service at McKinney, on the grounds that the line interferes with the public highway. The board of supervisors of Greenbush township are said to be facing a lawsuit, all because a farmer fell out of his rig while traveling on a certain road. The fellow claims that a defective culvert caused his team to run away and that he received severe injuries as a result. Fred Wheeler of Kenmare found a dozen pairs of moose hide hunting boots under the de pot platform at the above town of the North Star brond, and no one cares to claim them. The goods are still in possession of the railroad company, buc if no one claims them within a certain date Wheeler may become well supplied with footwear for some time to come. Miss Nora Hennessey of Sher wood was accidentally shot in the leg by her sister wit a 22 rifle while hunting gophers the other day near the town of Sherwood. The wound was very painful but not considered dangerous, and the young lady is getting along very nicely. Dana Hodgdon of Kenmare has brought suit against that city for $125 damages for the loss of a mule which came to its death on the streets some two weeks ago. The city council claim that the animal came to its death by com mitting suicide while Mr. Hodg don claims that the city was re sponsible for its death. This is the second mule that has died in Ward county that we know of in twenty years. John Schlaberg accidentally shot the big toe off his left foot Tuesday afternoon. He was out walking over his place with his shotgun and met N. A. Hoising ton. While talking to him Mr. Schlaberg rested the muzzle of the gun on his foot and must have thotlessly pulled the trig ger, which was set. Mr. Hois ington brot him to Sherwood and Drs. Keys and Blanchard ampu tates the toe, as it was found to be completely shattered. A disgraceful fight occurred at the home of Ole Swangtu, three miles south of Imperial, last Sun day morning. The fight was be tween Swantu and Severt Hagen, and followed a quarrel over the possession of a bottle of alcohol. Both parties are supposed to have been intoxicated, and the latter got the worst of it. It is said he was beaten up in a bru tal manner by his antagonist and that he was unconscious for sev eral hours following and has since been confined to his bed. Swangtu evidently realized the seriousness of his crime, and to stop prosecution at once went to Crosby, where bafore Justice S. S. Nelson he plead guilty to a charge of assault and battery and paid a fine of $5. The ac tion of the justice in the case has received severe criticism. The fine was paid on Sunday, the 28th, and receipt given bearing date the 27th, the das before the assault occurred. It is said Swangtu will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that action will also be taken against Justice Nelson. I'll stop your pain free.
