D. Announcement. I hereby announoe my candidacy for, the Republican nomination for meber of the House of Representa tives of the Legislative Assembly of tbe state of North Dakota for the 29th District at the primary election to be held on June 24th, 1908. I have no particular pet theories, except that I am a Repablicas se cause I believe that no other parry has written so many glorious p^es of history as che party of Linens .-.iid I believe it is today the party of the people as it was at the beginning. 1 also believe that Theodore Roose velt is a worthy successor to the noble line of his predecessors. I also believe that the Republican party is the party of Progress and achievement, a party of young men and men not afraid to meet responsibility. If nominated and elected, I shall endeavor to carry out the Republican party principles as interpreted by Theodore Roosevelt during the past seven .years. I believe that today there is a rising tide in human thought which tends to honesty and a square deal to every man, and if elected, I shall endeavor to promote the enactment of just laws and an ec onomical administration of the state affairs. The Ward county farmer is almost universally the owner of the farm he tills. He should dominate and control the political and econo mical affairs of the district because he is the mainstay and upon him the burden of taxation must fall heavily. For some reason the farmer's taxes are unreasonably high and I am in favor of our state revenue laws, the creation' of a tax commission to the end that all classes of property be taxed fairly and honestly. I believe that the permanent and substantial growth of this region justifies the belief that instead of making a large appropriation for the enlargment of the normal schools now in state, Minot should have a well equipped and up to date normal school that it is the duty of the next Legislative Assembly to take the necessary steps to bring this about. If nominated and elected, I pledge myself to subordinate other matters to the carrying out of this idea. If successful, I shall consider it a paramount duty clearly entailed to be always active and vigilant In season and out of season to safeguard the rights of all the people of the 29th Legislative District 1 1 Jgg —O.
