HUB TO RIM It is an undisputed fact that Short bridge and Burke were elected gov ernors .'because of the dissatisfac tion in the Republican ranks, and the Republicans swung iback into line after naming Shortredge one term and there are some strong indica tions that history will be repeated this year. Hoodlum® destroyed a garden be longing to an aged couple in Minot and all the garden truck was stolen and destroyed. The Kenmare News had a hot roast for the fellow who tied a tin can to the tail of a dog' in that town. The Ambrose News man objects to some of the stories that have been sent to out of that burg. The newspaper scrap at Plaza got so it reminded one of personal abuse before it ended. Burke is working hard in Ward county and his friends, some of them, think that the northern part of "Ward is sore at Johnson, but they are not and the Democratic candi date cannot control any Republican votes in this locality. The editor of the Bowbells Bui letin shot a jack rabbit the other day in mistake for a prairie chicken, In falling the rabbit struck the ground so hard that the editor could not tell whether the rabbit died from, fright or whether the charge really struck him. Correspondent Granum who was in trouble in this city recently has irulled for St. Paul. James Knudson living near .Den bigh lost his separator by fire re cently and it is expected that the fire was set for the special purpose of injuring him. The Minot High School foot ball team is planning on making a trip thru the state to play with other high school teams. There are a couple of fellows up at Bowbells who have a habit of beat ing their horses and the Tribune man think® that the horses know a lot more than the men do. The Kenmare opera house has been closed andi it begins to look as if the last place of amusement in that town was closed. The Fingal Herald thinks that both M. iN. Johnson and C. A. Johnson are growing a whole lot in popular favor. The government hag recently placed 30,000 black bass in the Des Lacs lake and Thompson lake near Kenmare. Fred Lane's home ten miles south* east of Sherwood was burned to tho ground! one day last week and most of his household effects were de stroyed but none of the family were injured. Last Tuesday the high wind scat tered lire from a straw pile that had been set the evening toeforie on the J. W. Harris farm north of Sherwood and before it was gotten control of it sprad over about nine square miles of country and destroy ed about 2000 bushels of oats which were in the shock, for W. W. Wood ward and the most of a 100 acres of wheat in the shocks which belonged to Ed. Burke who lives in that vicin ity. Help was finally obtained and the fire extinguished after hard fight ing. A runaway soldier and deserter was landed eear Car®io one day last week and taken to Port Harri son, Mont., and was overtaken by Marshall John Aherns who had a description of him, his name mas Waiter SchuckSart. Tihe Great Northern bought thirty acres of land from John Amundson of Tioga and will place a reser roir on the land and make a pumping station of Tioga. Notice of Special Election. iNotice is hereby given that in ac cordance with a resolution passed by the city council of the City of Minot on the 8th day of September, A. D., 1908, a Special Election is hereby called for the purpose of determining whether or not thirty (30) bonds in the sum of one thousand dollars ($1000.00) each and bearing interest at the rate of six (6) per cent per annum, payable annually, shall be issued by the City of Minot for the purpose of improving extending and installing a waterworks distribution system in the said City of Minot, North Dakota. The form of the ballot for said election shall be as follows: Said election shall toe held on the 6 th day of October, A. D. 1908. The polling places in the several Wards shall be as follows: For the issuance of bonds Against the issuance of bonds First Ward at Court House Second Ward, J. P. Shields' residence.
