MAG RACING CAR GOES IN DITCH AFTER TRAVELING 454 MILES OF THE 622 AROUND THE STATE, AUTO PLUNGES OFF NEW GRADE MINOT MAN JUMPS INTO SLOUGH. The Cadillac 46 horse power racing car which passed thru Minot Satur day on its sensational drive about the state, went into the ditch six miles from Carrington that afternoon at 5:80 o'clock. The machine was bad ly wrecked and was unable to pro ceed on its journey. All was going well with the car and the driver ex pected to arrive in Fargo at 9:30 or 10 o'clock that night, ahead of schedule time, when a water wagon was met on a new grade. The driver of the wagon turned out as far as possible and sig nalled for the machinc to come on. When opposite the wagon the ma chine started to slide off the grade and H. F. White, formerly of the Re porter, who was accompanying the machine to Fargo, feared that he would be injured and jumped. He landed in a slough and was completely ducked. Driver Rickford turned the machine squarely down the grade and saved the other occupants of the car from injury but damaged the machine. The auto started from Fargo at 4:04 o'clock Saturday morning with W. H. Horton at the wheel. The run to Devils Lake was made in a little over 4 hours, the exact time of arrival being 8:28. Wm. Redmond relieved Horton at Devils Lake and brot the machine into Minot at 12:33, on sched ule time. A quarter of a mile from Jtinot a gasoline feed pipe sprung a leak and an air valve became damag ed. Repairs were made and the ma chine left Minot at 12:51, 15 minutes behind schedule. The machine had the right of way and was not com pelled to slow down passing thru towns. The machine ran onto a side walk on East Valley street and miss ed a telephone pole by a fraction of an inch, while going at the rate of 50 miles an hour or better. An effort was being made to cover 622 miles from daylight until dark and this would have been accomplish ed had not the mishap occurred at Carrington. This would have no doubt made a new record in a cross country run. At the time of the accident, the tourists had made 454.8 miles in 13 hours and 20 minutes, 33 1-2 miles an hour including stops. The best time was made by Horton driving from Furxo to Devils Lake. Manager Horton may make another attempt later. The Cadillac made great showing. THE MCCOY'S RE TURN FROM NEW YORK PAUL V. McCOY SPENT SEVERAL W E E S S E E I N A STOCK FOR THE BIG STORE- SECURED MERCHANDISE AT TEMPTING PRICES. Mr. and Mrs. Paul V. McCoy re turned Monday from New York City and other eastern points where they spent six weeks. Mr. McCoy spends considerable of his time in the east buying for his store and on this trip bought unusually heavy, in antici pation of a big fall business. He se cured the merchandise at tempting prices and will price it accordingly. Considerable of the stock he purchas ed has arrived and is now on display, the whole store appearing unusually pretty. Mr. McCoy states that the recent trouble in Minot was watched care fully thruout the east, the New York papers containing lengthy accounts of the affair. Mr. McCoy found conditions very prosperous in the east, there being not the slightest semblance of a finan cial stringency predicted some time ago by certain capitalists. Business Arms look for conditions to improve if there is to be a change at all.
