Iljittlitll WARD AND THOMAS McCRILL GET LIFE Plead Guilty to Murder of Ernest Thompson, Ward County Jailor— Ward McCrill Brot Back From Towner. Ward ("Red") McOrill, whV Bhot and killed Ernest Thbmpson, Word county jailor, was brought back from Towner, N. D., late Tuesday after *jw6n, and entered a plea of guilty be fore Judge K. E. Leigjiton, who sen tenced him to life imprisonment at hard labor in the state penitentiary. Thomas McCrill, the brother, who bought the revolver, slipping it over to his brother ait the jail, appeared be fore Judge Frank E. Fiisk in the dis trict court chambers in Minoit, Wed nesday afternoon and pleaded guilty, also receiving a life sentence. Thos. McCrill, who is little past 21 years of age, never batted an eye when he re ceived his sentence. Weird McCrill was taken to Towner a week or so ago, as it was feared that 721 I I MEET ME AT THE FAIR $ some effort might be made by his Mi not friends to secure his freedom. No publicity was .given to this, however, until after he was brot back by Dep uty Sheriff Vandenoever. All that Ward McCrill said after receiving hia sentence was, "That's a long time to makeviwfoie." Mrs. Ward McCrill, who is in^Can ada, was expected to return to lend her husband whatever assistance miightN be possible, but it is said that she is serving a -six months' sentence in a jail- in Calgary, Alta., for prosti tution and the Canadian authorities are not yet ready to lot her go. The two McOrills, Ward aind Tom, were taken to the sltate penitentiary today in charge of the transportation officer. The Association of Commerce* which now occupies one rooilt of the J. H. Tompkins building, lias leased the entire floor, including the room occupied by the Odd Fellows a*d the offices of Architect Geo. Biypmhagen. Workmen will start Tuesday remodel nig the floor. One big hall 45x15 feet will be located in the re»r and this will be used by the Odd Fellows on their regular meeting nigthts. At other tmies, it will be occupied by the Asso ciation of Commerce for their assem bly meetings and by the Town Criers and kindred organizations. A btage will be built fti the hall (and there will will be a dressing room, kittfhen and store room. fThe rooms occupied by Mr. Bugen hagen will be used for the traffic de partment which has been installed by the Association- of Commerce. The organization is growing so rap idly that more room became urgent. Capt. Rowan is Better. 'Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Aaker have re turned from Chicago, where they spent two weeks. They made a trip to Waukegan, 111., to see E. L. Rowan, formerly of this city, who 'has been very ill. Mr. Rowan has been quite ill from erysipelas and was under the cane of a nurse, but is recovering nice ly now. Many members of the Elks lodge have called on him. Mr. Rowan will be in charge of a large Salvation Army hotel which will be completed in the spring. While with the Red Cross iin Europe, Capt. Rowan met one of the men connected with the hotel, who selected him for the position. Local Lumbermen Attend Canadian Convention. Messrs. Lee Piper, E. C. Brittin and G. A. Huss of the Piper-Howe Lumber Co. attended the annual meeting of stockholders of the Monarch Lumber Co. at Winnipeg, Manitoba, last week, returning home Saturday in time to make "preparations for the Managers' convention of the Piper-Howe Lumber Co. in*session here this week. MACDONALD RESIGNS. Bismarck, N. D., Feb. 4.—N. C. Macdonald, general educational ad viser to the bokrd of education, ten dered his resignatioin yesterday and it was accepted. Macdoniald was state superintendent of public instruction until the last election, when he was defeated for re-election by MiSs Min nie J. Nielaon. Plumbers Go On Strike. The members of the Minot Plumb ers Union have gone on a strike for a dollar an hour. They have been re ceiving 80 and 90 cents an hour in the various shops. The employers at this time do"not feel like meeting their demands. CARD OF THANKS.
