"W MOUNTED POLICE NORTH DAKOTA W. Warren, of Regina, Sask., a member of the Mounted Police force, is spending a few days in Minot. Mr. Warren is trying to round up some of the violators of the liquor law who are bringing Canadian whiskey across tiie line. He says the Canadian line is wide and hard to police. Tens thousands of gallons of whiskey are brat across the line each month he says. Occasionally a law violator is caught, but the business is lucrative and there is always more fellows to take the places of the ones arrested. Recently a Canadian with a $8,000 Cadillac car was arrested on the Ca dian side. He had $1600 worth of whiskey. His car and the whiskey were confiscated and he was also findtf $1600. It cost him $6,000 But he just laughed at the officers for his busi ness still showed a nice profit. House holders in Canada are permitted to buy a case of whiskey a month for their personal use. Many of tfiem do not use whiskey, but permit their names to be used and they make a profit of ten or fifteen dollars a month. Mr. Warren tells of a unique way of getting whiskey across the line. Frequently household goods and other effects are shipped to the states in bond. The cars are not insnected as they cross the line. Whiskey ven dors keep their eyes open for suoh cars, break the seals on them, put- in their whiskey, reseal the cars which are not inspected at the line, and fol low the cars into the state. The seals are broken and the whiskey taken out. Canadian authorities have-just learned of this* latestr^iethod and are ion the lookout for offenders. Mr. Warren says that many illicit whiskey stills are being operated in Canada. Whiskey is neap over in Canada, a quart of the famous Johritiy Walter brand selling for $1.60. This is the same brand that sells readily in the states for $15 a" quart. Canadians buy their whiskey on pre scription. For fifty^ cents they may procure a prescription from a doctor They take jit to a dispensary and buy their whiskey-/for $1.50 a quart and arc allowed to keep the prescription using it again and again. Two Cows Make Fine Records J. H. Cover, from northeast of Mi not, has two cows that are worth their weight in gold. He keeps an accurate account of every penny that his produce brings and the two cows produced $199.60 worth of milk last year besides furnishing all the milk, cream and butter for two families. They" are just cows he says, oil no particular breed. He ha& a flock of 200 White Leghorn chickens and last year sold almost $500 worth of eggs, besides he sold a good miany dollars worth of poultry. His flock produc es high as 60% dozen eggs in a week this spring. He brot in 51Vs dozen eggs Friday and sold them for 40 cents a dozen. He packs them neatly in cartons, keeps them nice and clean and they are always fresh. He gath ers the eggs twice a day and they are never more than a week old when 'marketed. He has 300 fine chicks. He always feeds his poultry good clean palatable food and this insures the finest kind of eggs.
