During the convention at Devils Lake, newspaper men from the south eastern part of the state interested themselves in the proposition of hav ing the Press Association foster the school already approved by the board at Wahpeton. The committee of the Press Association listened to these men but withheld judgment. GET W NECK WILL YEA For School of Printing Efforts to have the North Dakota Press association adopt the course in printing to be started at the Wahpe ton State School of Science with the beginning of the school year are be ing made by men interested in the school, which is attempting to fulfill its mission as a school of trades and industries. The starting of a course in printing was approved by the Board of Administration at a meeting in July. For the last ten years the North Dakota Press Association has been looking over the supply of appren tices and a year ago a committee was appointed to make efforts to get some school of the state to put in a school of printing. The committee, made up of Mark Forkner of Lang don, Julius Bacon of Grand Forks, and Norman Black of Fargo, considered reporting to the Press Association that the proper course to arrange for a course in printing at the University of North Dakota in connection with the school of journalism at that place. In a conference of the heads of the school with Dean Babcock some time ago, it was the decision to make their especial effort in a trade line for the present year that of printing, Dean Babcock of the university having been named adviser for the school be cause of his understanding of the in dustries of the state. BENEDICT NEWS A. E. Sevareid of Velva was a busi ness caller here Tuesday. Wm. Adams moved into the Otto Bechtle house this week. The H. O. Sethre family spent Sun day at Riverside Park at Minot. Mrs. Smith is visiting this week with her daughter at Lonetree. Mrs. J. R. Reed of "Velva visited several days last week with her son, C. A. Reed. Miss Clara Nelson came up from Bismarck Saturday to spend a few days with friends and relatives. S. N. Miller and family camped a few days the first of the week at Rice Lake. John A. Johnson enjoyed a visit from his nephew, Mr. Nordaune, last week. Mrs. Ralph Hobza and children went to Douglas Wednesday to make a short visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. F."W. Bishop, motored to Strawberry Lake Sunday and at tended the meeting of postmasters and rural carriers held there. The McLean county postmasters organ ized a Welfare Council and our local postmistress, Mrs. Bishop, was elect ed a member of the board. Anderson of Fargo represented the North Dakota Pythians at the con vention. Dr. Sprake of Casselton, Grand Keeper of R. and 5- for the state, attended the convention. Capt. Gross "Arrested" Capt. Otto Gross, police commis sioner, was "placed under arrest" at his home* Tuesday evening, charged with "speeding thru life". The Cap tain and his good wife were loaded into the Black Maria and hauled to the police station, where Judge Lynch looking more austere than even in his high hat, heard the case against him. Members of the police force were on hand to testify against the prisoner. The Judge fined Capt. Gross $20 and attached $10 costs, or sentenced him to 20 days' hard labor on the streets for default. This happened on the 25th anni versary of the marriage of Capt. and Mrs. Gross. The kind hearted judge agreed to remit the fine if the couple would agree to be married over again. This proved agreeable and the Judge performed the ceremony, in a manner almost equal to that of Judge Murray. The Captain and his wife were pre sented with a beautiful four-piece sil ver set. The affair took place before an as semblage of prisoners, policemen, fire men and city employes. Mrs. Eliza beth Campbell, police matron made the presentation speech. t. Kansas Woman Becomes Y. W. C. A. Secretary Miss Stella Orr of Oswego, Kan., now engaged as general secretary of the Y. W. C. A. at Owasso, Mich., has been engaged as Y. W. C. A. sec retary for Minot, succeeding Miss Ethel Crocker. She begins Sept. 1. Mrs. S N. Swenson, who attended the Y. W. C. A. conference at Lake Ge neva, Wis., recently met Miss Orr and speaks highly of her. Mrs. L. A. Corey has been acting secretary since Miss Crocker resigned. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Mitchell and D. K. Manson of the Waverly Tea Room, left yesterday for New York City, enroute to their former home in Zant, Greece, where they will spend the winter.
