DAILY mail to'Hamilton commencing •Oct. 1. THE Board of .county commissioners will meet next Thursday, Sept. 20. THE branch ofiice of the Custom House is to be at the post ollice and.not on I'ol lette street as was stated last week. DN. PERLEY'S professional card will be found elsewhere. He will be in town at stated times to practise the healing art. SOME of our stalwart young men are getting up a gymnasium and those who desire to aid the movement can leave their names at W. C. Feldnian's. AN exchange refers to this weather as Indian snmmer. Not much Indian sum mer about it. It is the genuine article ir imported direct from the Tropics. CLOUDS of insects, said to be black ants, •were noticed yesterday, moving at a freight of two or three hundred feet. Had they chosen to land they might have caused a sensation. Now is the time to subscribe for the PIONEER EXPKESS that you may keep posted, not only in the general news of the day, bnt'on the growth, prosperity and current local news of the Banner county. TnE types last week made Wight's new building on Stutsman street 10 feet by 50 instead of 18x50. No wonder. The type setters got dazed and the proof reader got pur-blind over the almost intermir. able tax list. THE Red River has got to be a tame unimportant stream these days. It is many years since the water was so low, being in general from four to six feet in the middle. The ferry at this point lias hard wiggling. THERE are now nine prisoners in the jail, where they must still remain until jtlie November term of the court. It is a very bad state of things, but it seems that Judge Hudson is utterly unable to keep up with his work in this district. COUNTY AUDITOR BIRD requests us to give notice to wlipm it may interest that the county commissioners will devote the first day of their October meeting— Monday 1—to the consideration of the school law. It would be well for any who have-views to express on the subject to be present at that meeting. Mr. J. V. MGINTYKE, of this town, and Miss Sadie S. Hubbel, daughter of J. G" Ilubbel, Esq., of Gio'an.N. Y., were uni ed in matrimonial bonds on Thursday of last week after which happy event and followed by showeiu of congratulations from hosts, of friends the newly married couple started on a leisurely liridjil trip lijtherward. They aro expected to arrive at their new home early next week. May they find much joy now and many suc ceeding lmppy days. •mrfcff v- "?./.» V:-- 'Vv:'.J ':v'' .\-'"^C Chas. Full intends having an auction sale of his household' furniture at his residence, Cavileer street, on Monday next at two o'clock. This will be a good chance to secure a handsome piano -ton reasonable terms, as one will then be offered CHAPLAIN COLLIER'S many friends in this town will regret to learn that he and his good lady are to remove to Fort Tot ten. The chaplain's occasional public addresses in this town have always been much appreciated while the genial quali ties of himself and Mrs. Collier have won the regard of all. May their years be crowned with increasing happiness and prosperity. Mr, A. Berg represented the Fargo Re publican'in town this week Mr. G. F. Winter and family expect to move to Hamilton soon. Mr. Winter is contract ing his business to a basis that will admit of more leisure for the proprietor......Mr. Hugh O'Donnell returned this morning froinathree months trip'through the Turtle Mountains and Souris rher coun try. The object ol his trip was to search for coal. He says lie -was successful but is not yet prepared to make full develop ments. Church NoteB. Rev. R. J. Creswell will preach at the Carlisle schoolhouse Sunday, Sept., 10th, at 3 o'clock p. ni., and in the schoolhouse south of Bowesuiont Sunday, Sept., 30, in the evening. Best County Paper in Dakota. (Grand Eorks lleruld.) The Pembina Pioneer-Express is the inost complete county paper in Dakota. Besides publishing the local news of Pembina, it contains, every week, batches of interesting items from thirteen dilTerent towns in the county. Coming—Rare Musical Treat. Donovin's Original Tenneseans are to give one of their musical entertainments in this place on Saturday evening Sept. 29.. Judging from the high lep'utation, thoJeiiiiesseeans have maintained since their organization in 1873, and the unlim ited 11raise accorded them by eminent musical critics and the public prci-s wherever they have been it is not too much to predict that it will prove the Lmst concert ol vocal music ever given here. Their progiam embraces a large variety and wide range of singing, which c.tnu'it fail to please all. Markets. We had hoped to be able to quote cur rent prices on wheat and other grains this week, but we find that buyers are not quite in sluipe to open a steady market. The elevator iB not yet ready for the reception of wheat. Mr. Howe is expected in a few days to make arrange ments for buying at the elevator. The new roller machinery for the Pembina mill has been delayed so that Mr. Traill is not yet in shape to buy. No. 1 hard would be worth to-day 85 cents, according to St. Paul quotations. An improvement is expected before long. With the mill turning out 150 barrels of Hour a day and the elevator running we may confidently expect good prices to rule during the season. Fort Pembina. We have at last succeeded in getting a first class tailor, one having come from St. Paul last Saturday. First Lieut. Geo. F. Cook left Monday for Fort SneU'mg, Minn., to assist Capt. Blunt in the coining competitive rifle match to be held there. Average temperature for the week end ing Sept. 11th, 56 degrees. The warm est day was Tuesday when 86 degrees in the shade was reached. Rain fall on the 6th 8-100 inches. Post chaplain Rev. Collier and lady re turned to the Fort last Saturday after a two months absence in the east and the usual service was held Sunday night. The Chaplain has received an order for his removal to Fort Totten, D. T. We are sure that in his new field of labor he will have the best wishes of this Post which holds him in high esteem.
