By wiling at every house at which the peddler called, after a three days search, Mr. King found his man at Stephen, Minn., who readily came back with him. The peddler was wanted as a witness for the static against- Mr. Vcnne of the Neche firm of Venue 3b Dumas. Venue is accus ed of breaking Into the store after the sheriff had taken charge, and re moving goods, and the peddler's stock is claimed to be composed In part of these goods purchased from Venne. Mr. Venne had his examination at Bathgate on Wednesday, and was bound over to district court under three hundred dollars ball. REV. MR. MOORR, and wife were invited out to tea last Friday eve. Early In the evening word was brought for them to return as there was a wedding party waiting their presence When they got home they found very large party of friends who had taken possession of the house and were waiting to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Moore, on the first anniversary of their own wedding. The house proved too small for the number of guests and .they adjourned to the church, where refreshments were served, and later, a fine extension table and rocking chair were present ed as mementoes of the occasion. Hughes, of Ilooplc, made his annual visit to our city, Tuesday. Mr. Hughes is une of the first settlers that located in the Crystal neighborhood, and prosperous farmer. He reports lots of wheat being marketed ait Iloople, and that a private elevator pays from five to six cents per bushel more than the regular market price, The acreage under cultivation la about the same as last year, but there is considerably more coarse grain and potatoes than ever before E. Faddcn, came Tuesday for a short visit with her relatives here. Geo. Lawrence and L. E. Storms of Joliettc, were over Wednesday, mill ing. Mr. Seeley biought bis tools direct from Germany, which includes over forty kinds of files. State of North Dakota vs. Venne, has been on trial before Justice I teeni er since Monday morning. Venne is charged with stealing goods out of the stock levied up-in by Sheriff O'Connor last fall from Venne' & Dumas. Geo. McDonald, of Cavalier, rode the Masonic goat, Tuesduy evening, for the third and last time. Jim Mc Holland, Revs. Robson aud Sullivan, A. O. Disbrow und James Thompson accompanied him over to help him along through the rough und danger, ous path he had to travel. Geo. Bat h Kate is very fortunate in having Mr. Estcrly locate here as this makes our town headquarters for Peiuhimi county for their line of machinery. Charley Atkinson and his carload of bronchos arrived by treiglit, Sun day morning and before Monday Charley with that smile of his, which is characteristic to all horsemen, had a number of them sold. Charley can tell his customers just what that broncho cost him to a dollar and that honest looking contcnance of his ul ways backs him up in his statements. On Tuesday the plant of the cheese factory was moved five miles east, down to Carlisle. The proprietors of the factory deemed this more neees sary this season on account of tlie lo cation of the cows, it being so fyr to draw the milk to keep it in operation here. The building will not be mov ed but will be ready for machinery again next season if there is sufficient cows In this section lo warrant an other factory being started here. Nearly all of the patrons ot the fac tory were cither at or near Carlisle, A meeting was called at Mr. De mars' last Saturday evening, wiiicb resulted in the moving down there for this season. While we don't like to lose the factory this was the best move the proprietors could do undci all circuniKtnnccs aud tlie very men in Carlisle who are upholding und patronizing the institution are tlie men who are getting along and mak ing money in the country. There are sonw men in our own locality who were continuously throwing a little cold water on the cheese factory every chance they got they arc not worthy of the name of men and cannot see further than the end of their noses unless there was a dime in the tran sactiou that was going into their own pocket. Carlisle ought to have tlie factory, they arc the men who put their shoulders to the wheel. 1 for one, say, whoop 'cr up for the farmers of Carlisle. It is with regret we chronicle the demise of Mrs. C. W. Johnson, who died at Winnipeg, Friday morning, wl.ere she had gone to have a surgi cal|opcration pcrformed, which turn ed into blood poisoning, causing her death. The remains were brought from Winnipeg Saturday, to her late residence here and the funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 2 i. from her home to the towu hall, which was packed full, long before the hour arrived, where the Rev. Jephcott preached the funeral ser mon: even the passage between the M. E. church and the hall was tilled with scats, filled bv men und women, who were anxious to hear what was said of a woman who was respected and esteemed by all who knew her. Her death is keenly felt by every citizen of our town. She was a thorough lady and always took an ac tive part In all socials and gather ings, besides being of a thorough business nature, in fact the large trade which her husband enjoys in his store is laigly due to her untir ing and energetic principles. }n sickness she pould nofbo excelled and there is more than one household in Bathgate where her kindness will never be forgotten. Death could not have laid his cold band on oi|e Bathgate who will bp more missed or deeply regretted than Mrs. Johnson! Her funeral was very large, there be ing seventy-six teams in attendance, besides a large crowd who walket} to the cemetery. She Ipayea a husband, sister (Mr*. Hughes, the proprietor of the Cavalier roller mills and town justice, are pushing his name to the front as a candidate for auditor, on the democratic ticket, Mr. llughcn is well mid favorably known over the county, and his work in behalf of the democratic party cer tainly deserves reward. Tlie'operators find they can get more milk here than they can in and around Bathgate, it is now located on the farm of B. Demurs, who gives the use of his large grain warehouse this summer until after harvest, when Messrs Steel and Rodgcrs will build, or move their Bathgate building down here.
