suit against (lie Martthal, claiming damages

case was tried at Hie Circuit Court, in Uiitl'alo,
last week, before Judge Ouovkii,
. The defense, plead only for "mitigation of
damages, admitting the uiiwarrnntahillty
of tile Imprisonment, but showing the cir
eumstaticca which rendered the action of
the Provost Marshal one of good motive,
being an effort to put a stop to enormous
framU practiced upon the government.1'
The judge gave the cise to the Jury, and
they rendered a verdict of one thousand
live hundred dollars for lavis This case
is an Indication that there la it day of reck
