A reward of $500 Is offered by tho Caledonia council for the arrest ami conviction of tho murderer of Scott Richardson, whoso body was found In the Whetstone river east of Cale donia, laBt Sunday morning. After seeing that the authorities! bad Inves tigated tho mysterious dcatli without any satisfactory results, tuo council at its meeting Thursday night voted unanimously In favor of offering a reward. It is voiy probable that tho enso will bo taken up by tho Pinker ton detective agency and It Is thought that somo Important facts will bu learned In a few weeks. It was learned Thursday morning that Richardson did not havo a watch on his person when ho visited Cale donia as his wlfo had alleged. His gold watch was found Wednesday evening under the seat of the huckster wagon which ho had been driving on tho Saturday previous to his murder. This development makes the caso Btlll more mysterious , as It Is now very uvldent that ho was not mur dered for any valuables. Thoro was a report about the Union station today that tho Erlo officials had mado somo , concessions to the striking machinists' of tho road, and that probably the -strike would soon bo called off. However, tho strikers demand that the- piece work system of the road be abandoned. It is very Improbablo that the road will grant their request but tho of ficials are willing to compromise In order that the work of the machinists Imay be resumed, 1 , Trains aro running regularly on the Erlo to Peoria today. For several days trains have' ben dotoured be cause of the washout In that vicinity and consequently time has been lost. No. 11 was tlio first tratn to pass over the bridge at Peoria for several days. A special train, bearing a regiment of soldiers, enroute from New York to Chicago, passed through the city at noon today. The soldiers will serve in the Phlllpplnea. Tho Erlo Is repairing Its station nt Hepburn this week. The bridges are being replaced and the station given a new coat of paint.
