The com mittee are not yet ablo to announce the names of the speakers, etc; but due notice will be given before the meeting of the As sociation. Standing at his side the angel of the bright New Year looks calmly out on the far-flashing sea, while lying upon the sboro, swathed in the un pitying heavens. All look back upon some dear hope cherished, some loved one among the dead; and myriads of dreams thatsoem ed born in heavon have been dissipatedbo fore they descend to the grasp. But the future is before us. Blessed angol of Hope! gorgeously it opens! The future, not with its own year, but with its long flight of years, which mount upwards to tho place of our dreams. It is emphatically, says the Boston Know Xotking, made up of the masses the mil lion. Look and see everywhere. Who are its opponents? The aristocrats the rich, the politicians, the monopolists, the grinders and insullcrs of the people. What on the other side the industrial, laboring, getting-their-living classess the mechanic, artisan, worker of all sorts ebuses which think, feel, act honestly and independently for the general good and their own rights. Such is the composition of the American psriy, and such its opponents. We are of, with and for the oeople. Such an organization may err in some of its measures and men, but it is not very likely to. Its judgement will almost always be right and good its motives and inspi ration alwayi. Americanize a body of mon and they will seek the public good as naturally as water seek its level. Hence the fears which fogies throw out that the now party" is a revolution of destruction and not of improvement and stability, is all assertion. That it is a revolution in it spirit sn Hotter is true but only to the real enemies, and institutions of the coun try, whuiher in the hands of natives or for eigners. Tub Result or the Election is Kan sas. The St. Louis Democrat says of the late Kansas election: No doubt is now entertained of the re sult of the election in Kansas, or the man ner in which it was effected. Gov. Whit field is elected delegate to Congress. He is a thorough pro-slavery man of the Cal houn school of politics. He goes for the institution of slavery in Kansas, and his election was Accomplished by the votes of the nullifiers from the border counties in Missouri, who went over into the the terri tory under the advice of Atchison, for the purpose of controlling the election. This is an illuvtra ion of the beauty of "squat ter sovereignty" under the Douglas bill, by which the people of Kansas were to regulate their own domestic "institutions," but for fear they should not regulate them preoiifly to tho taste of their neighbors, the Missouri nullifiers wont over the bor der to assist thorn in the business. The upshot of the business is, that .the fraud by which the Missouri Compromise was repealed, required to bo consummated by another fraud, and the man who made a tool of Douglas for the perpetration of the nrst iraud, telling him it he didn I in troduce a bill for that purpose, that he would resign his position as President of the bonate and introduce it himself, has at last found it necessary to resign as Presi dent of the Senate, in order to superin tend tho perpetration of the second fraud. Funky. Some loafer at Washington, who is hard up for items of news, has sent the following dospatch to the New-York ZfWt: "Gov. Medill refuses to call an citruses sion of the Cliio Legislature. Great excite ment prevails in Columbus." Col. Bonton has returned to Washing' ton liom Ins late triumphant northern trip much refroshod and encouraged. The enorraons masses of people who rnsbed to see him, gave him much gratification, and strengthened his faith in his Pncifia Rail road ideas. It is reported that he 'has in his trnnk the great Pacific Railroad in the shape of a list of twenty-four names of the solid men of Boston, headed by Abbott Lawrence, which be is authorized to in sert in a bill incorporating the company for that enterprise. ECFADOIl. We loam, from good authority, that a treaty had been made botween the United States and Ecuador, by which the latter cedes her sovereignty ver the Galapagos group of the United States for thtium of three millions of dollars. We are unable to give furthor particulars; but no doubt the matter will be immediately brought be fore Congress for its sanction, and the Gal apagos may yet become United States ter ritory before tho Sandwich Inlands. It is said that rich deposits of guano, of good quality, have been discovered on the Islands, which, if true, will prove of great vnluo to the agricultural interests of the S.atos, and justify the oxponditure of such a large sum of publio money. UTAgood story istsld by "the boys" nt tho expense of the newly elected Know Nothing Recorder of Fairfield county. A few days after cntorinji upon the discharge of his official duties, he entered the Clerk's office, bearing upon his countenance indu bitable evidence that some momentous question was struggling for solution. Ho held in his hand a bona fide deed, which some disciple of Favstkb had ornamented with a neat border, and other exponents of taste and skill of the "craft," lie addres sed the Deputy Clerk in a confidential tone and inquired if it were necessary that the recorded deed should be a fat smile of the original? The Deputy, who is a bit of a wag, thought he saw an opening for a joke and answered affirmitively. "Jiorder and all?" inquired the official. "Most certainly." The Recorder left.but returned in about two hours looking somewhat perplexed. "How do you progress with your job?" inquired the friendly Clerk. "I've got along well enough with the border," replied the other, "but the infern al spread eaglt at the top that's the great est bonier 1 novcr coulu draw anything of the sort." The Clork, having something of a geni us for drawing, volunteered to "execute" the eagle, an achievement which he satis factorily accomplished. Statesman. Jt-Reports of the trial of George W. Green, a Banker at Chicairo. Illinois for' the murder of his wife by poison, occupies most of the papers of that city. He seems to have been habitually cruel to his wifo, and to have made improper advances to bor sister. The trial is not yet ended. sT'Tb London Times speaks of the Cossacks as they appeared at the recent battle in tho Crimea, na resembling 'mounted Yankees, in their agility, intelli gence, irrrgulnr costume and Individual self-reliance!' y Owing to the crowded state of our job work and to give our compositors a chance to enjoy the sports 01 the season, the GaietU docs not appear this week with its usual amount of matter.
