Plans for the American National bank's seven-story home at the corner of San Antonio aud Oregon streets, were outyesterday and bids have been called for by Trost & Trost for Feb ruary 25. Completed and furnished the new bank building will cost about $125,000. It is to be a concrete structure, 4S by 112 feet, With brick curtain "oralis, terra cotta ornamentation and will have 94 office rooms in addition to two store rooms on Oregon street, the bank, base ment and buffet. The main entrance to the building on Oregon street will have polished gran ite columns, while the bank will have entrances from Oregon and San Antonio streets as well as from the lobby of the structure. The American National bank will occupy the corner, the banking room to have a mezzanine v floor, to which the vault, 12 by 21 feet will extend from the basement, and In the future safety deposit boxes will be accessible on this floor. The bank will bring out something new for El Paso skyscrapers, and in ad dition to the mail chute it will have a vacuum cleaning plant, pipes on ev ery floor, so every room in the struc ture can be reached with the air pres sure. Lee & "YToodyard, now engaged in erecting the wholesale and retail stores on San Francisco and El Paso streets for Krakauer, Zork & .Moye, have se cured the contract to erect a two-story business house for Mrs. S. Schuts at $32,400. The Schutz building is to occupy the site of the Hoyt furniture store, front ing both San Francisco and the recent ly opened North El Paso street. It will have plate glass fronts along both streets. The same contractors are also build ing a third story to the warehouse structure for Krakauer. Zork & Moye, at the corner of El Paso and Main streets. The original intention of the owners was to have the wholesale store on the Main street side, but two stories, but the third is now being poured at a cost of $6,000. The retail store of Krakauer, Zork & Moye, which will front both San Fran cisco and El Paso streets, will be three stories, making the entire concrete structure from San Francisco to Main street three stories high. The transfer of the property was made late Friday afternoon and the Long Lumber com pany is now in possession. SANATORIUM FOR SOHOOL BUILDING Furnishings May Be Sold for a Sanatorium Downthe Valley. Situated on the foothills of Mt. Franklin and overlooking the lower valley, Baldwin's sanltorium Is being considered as a possible location for a boarding school. The sanitorium structure Is commo dious, has wide verandas, is accessi ble to street car service, and by some 13 considered an ideal location, although definite arrangements have not been made for Its leasing. David G. Baldwin, owner of the property, however, has considered it to such an extent that he has offered to dispose of the sanitorium equipment, it is stated, and the purchase of the same is now being considered by Dr. B. M. Worsham and others interested in a project to errect a modern sanitorium in the lower valley. The erection of a sanitorium in the El Paso valley is looked upon favorably and while a site has not been selected nor the equipment of the Baldwin sani toriuiri purchased it is possible that the new institution "will be errected in the near future. PROSPERITY AROUND ABOUT TUGUMCARI I v Ample Evidence That 1910 Is Going: to Be a Real Hummer. Tucumcari, X. M., Feb. 12. Evidence that the 3'ear of 1910 is going to be a prosperous one for this section of the : territory can already be seen and busi ness has been steadily increasing for the past two months. This Is noticed more especially in the railroad business. The E. P. & S. W. shops and round house here have a larger force of men employed now than at any time in the history and the payroll for this (month will eclipse all previous records. The great coal mines at Dawson are now said to be running at full blast and are turning out more coke and coal than at any previous time. The Southwest ern is furnishing the Rock Island with more than a thousand tons of coal per day which is being delivered here. Be sides this extra work, the Southewestern is sending several more trainloads of coke each day to its smelters in Ari zona and northern Mexico. FSWEL REITERATES THAT HE WILL BUILD El Paso Street Structure to Be Eight Stories Tall est in the City . "I am going to build one story higher than anybody else so no one can look down on me," reiterates Maj. W. J. Fewel, owner of the north-west corner at El Paso and San Antonio streets. The property has a 31-foot frontage on San Antonio street, but extends alons El Paso street for a distance of 86 feet and S inches. The former alderman says that ad joining property owners have made no arrangements to join him in erecting a structure, but that he will build any way. Tenants have until May 20 In which to vacate the present building and Mr. Fewel expects to start -work on the mod ern skyscraper about June 1. JOn. SOREXSOX AXD J. H. SMITH ARE ARRESTED. John Sorenson, a contractor, was ar rested Friday by policeman Cherry, of the plaza beat, charged with hitching his horse to one of the goosenecks on Mesa avenue. He pleaded guilty and Ignorance of the law, so judge Lea dis missed him. J. H. Smith was arrested on a charge of maintaining a nuisance, but no writ ten complaint had been filed, so the j case was passed until today.
