Today marks the exchange of the
Southw'estern Telephone & Telegraph
properties in this city to the new Tri
State Telegraph and Telephone com
pany. R. F. Morris, general manager of
the company, Is in the city as represen
tative of the new concern.
Within a few days representatives
of the Southwestern company will ar
rive from the east to make formal
transfer. But today marks the change
In general management
"There will be no material change in
management," said Mr. Morris. "The
local officers and employes of the old
company will remain the same with a
few minor changes. The Alamogordo
deal has been completed, but that with
the El Paso transfer, is all that has been
actually accomplished so far. Outlj-ing
towns will be looked to as soon as pos
sible." Philip Hamlin, vice president, and H.
P. Story, traffic manager, both of the
Tri-State company have departed from
the city ending their prellminarj visit.
PUEBLO BATTLE
IS CELERATED
Tomorrow' will be a truly patriotic
feast day in Juarez- It marks the anni
versary of the taking of Pueblo from
the French by Gen. Diaz back in 1867.
The celebration in Juarez wflll be strict
ly military. Between 9 and 10 a. m. the
troops stationed at the garrison near
the city will parade the principal streets
led by military bands. Again at 5 and
6 p. m., the two bands will give a
marching concert In the streets without
the military escort
All the young bloods and fair ones of
the pity will dance Saturday night at
Teatro Juarez at a ball given by the
Recreation club. The reception of guests
will begin at 9 oclock.
On Sunday afternoon an amateur
roping and riding contest will be held
with the young men of the city and a
few real Mexican cowboys as partici
pants. There will be lots of fun, too,
mule and jack, and cat and dog races.
City fathers will be judges and all
Juarez society and many visitors from
El Paso will turn out. Gate receipts
will go toward the fund to make need
ed Improvements at the centenary in
September. The affair Is in charge of
the local centenary committee.
CLARK CASE
IS DISMISSED
Qn motion of counsel for the defence,
justice E. B. McCUntock this afternoon
j dismissed the complaint against Charles
Clark charging him with forging. The
action was on the ground that the

SCHWARTZ RAISES
$3700 FOR FAIR
A. Schwartz, one of the members of
the soliciting committee of the El Paso
Fair association, reported today that he
had soured subscriptions for $3700
of the necessary $20,000 to guarantee
the holding of a fair this fall. He has
delivered his subscriptions to secretary
J. C. Rous of the fair association, as
he has visited all business men and In
terests from whom he was assigned to
solicit funds.

Police Say She Declined to Have Any
thing To Do With Them or With
Her Owh Mother.
Mrs. Lee Hill and W. E. Lindsey are
held In the city jail as suspicious char
acters. According to the police, Mrs. Hill left
her four children In Tucson, Ariz., leav
ing them with her aged" mother and came
to El Paso.
This morning her mother arrived with
the four children and in the detective's
office, the officers assert, when a little
oyearold boy rushed up to greet his
mother, whom he had not seen for 10
days, she cursed him, and then turning
on her mother proceeded to berate her in
like manner when the officers took her
downstairs and locked her In a cell.

H. E.Parks, said to haVe a bad record,
escaped from the work gang in Juarez
yesterday afternoon. Parks was work
ing on the city water plant Improvements
back of the municipal buildings. He es
caped by scaling a high adobe wall. El
Paao police identified Parks, who is
held for vagrancy, as Tom Mo'orse. well
known In police annals. The man evi
dently has made good his escape.
