the odor of sulphur. The real geyser
displays, however, occur only at In-

the subterranean energy which -produces

grace of form and delicacy of texture

of its crater begins to dissolve itself
into forms of mist of the transparent
delicacy of a bridal veil, , which, when

Even In her most tremendous mo
ments nature hardly ever forgets to
soften and beautify her, working- by

and fascinating, but are at the same
time sobering, for they set one' thinking-
upon the gigantic forces that are
at work fca the world forces that
ordinarily play themselves out with
such steady quietness as tc ' escape
the discovery or even the . suspicion
of any hut the most considerate and
observant. - - ;

world's terrific machinery that we
cease to remember the invisible ener
gies by which it Is operated. We are
unaffected by. the. tremendous .service
rendered to us by the sun, because
it does Its- work -with so. -noiseless' a
constancy.

ning and the .crash. of the thunder to
startle us out of our regardlessness
and to "give us a feeling of what lies
back of the ordinary gentle tenor of

Harry Moore Is Appointed a

Tsleta, Texas. July 14. A party of
supposed Mogonistas have made their
appearance in the valley and it is be
lieved that they were trying to get
followers. They were armed and
stayed around the Clint and San Eliza
rio saloons for several hours. "When
they boarded the train a detective
caught' the same train and kept a
watch on them untilthey were out of
the valley.
Sergt. Games has gone to Sierra
Blanco with several of the rangers
horses to put them on their pasture.
Capt. Hughes -had a deep well sunk
at his ranch. Grassland, and struck a
fine stream of water.
.The valley has not had any tele
phone connection with El Paso since
the severe electrical storm on Monday
night, a number of batteries haviwg
burnt out.
Mr. and Mrs. T. M. . Gourley and
daughter have moved their residence
to - El Paso, Mr. Gourley having been
appointed mounted Immigration In
spector, with headquarters at that
place.
Harry Moore, recently a ranger In
Cnpt. Hughes's company, has been ap
pointed river guard to fill the vacancy
caused by T. M. Gourley's resignation.
The surveyors for the G. H. &, S. A.
railroad have reached here and have
established headquarters at "Valley Inn.
